Cast nets on Pompano Pier

Post by anas473 »

Is there any reason in particular that you cannot use a cast net for bait off of the pompano pier? It is a public pier and the entrance marker does not prohibit it, I had a couple of officers tell me that it was not allowed when they passed me by at the time.

Was there anything to cast at? I was there Sat & Sun and all the bait had totally vanished.

Over a week ago there was giant schools of larger pilchards at the end and a smaller school of smaller ones near the beach.

I have seen people throwing cast nets from the Pompano pier in the past, but some people might have complained to Johnny Law about it. They might now prohibit it and they just have not posted it. I know in the past it was ok.

I used to throw it and catch pilchard before going to fishing up north. I never had a problem except for one serious tourist telling me " I am pretty sure it is illegal to catch fish with cast net in US... " lol

It's all on street now. But be sure to save your reciepts, I got ticketed even though I was paid up, second time it's happened there. Those incompetent blowholes don't have a clue and we pay the price one way or the other.

Last time I was there I did notice that several cars did not have the parking pass displayed on their windshield. Kind of made it look like they weren't charging for parking after ripping out the metering across the street but I just walked up to the next meter and get me a pass anyway No ticket for me this time. The main problem was even with fresh bait and great presentation no fishy either

Yes of course you still have to pay, but no need to display the reciept, they check the computer by space number. I was ticketed even though it was paid. Got it voided, but it still cost me time/effort to do so.

Ok. I didn't know that. It is nice that you can add more time whenever you want to instead of having to wait until the first time expires like at dania
