sodeska...lol (the only Japanese I know)

So slow pitch = turning the handle slowly per every jerk.
high-pitch = turning the handle fast per every jerk.
High speed jigging = turning handle and jerking the rod as fast as you can

Something like that.

Throw more here what you got... :toast:

I would look up flutter jigging its relatively the same Imo
they really aren't when we go out Ull try my jigs and rods and it will become clear. Even williamson flutter jigs are speed jigs. Shimano flatside are somewhere in between. The only true slow shimano is almost shimano flat fall which is very basic.

Slow pitch is relatively new in the US.

some ppl have been doing it forever but jigging is gaining popularity I even saw a newspaper article recently about it
Yea the willamson flutter isn't 100% center balanced it acts more eradically than a true slow jig that was bad example by me, But I definitely wouldn't consider it high speed it doesn't cut through water like a vert, and shimano butterfly which I believe is what you called flat fall is definitely a slow speed jig. May be basic for the non Japs but :patriot: right here lol... thanks for the offer of using your jigs you know I want to try it all and I'll prob have some more by tomorrow too I have to go to crook and crook to apply for job so I can't leave there without buying something and they carry all the top dollar chit.

correct me if I am wrong...I figured this out from your last comment and doing some internet fishing.

Amount of line retrieved by reeling has to be equal to or more than that of line retrieved by rod jerking...
If not, line may get caught up by rod tip...

With low ratio reel,
for slow pitch jerking, you may be able to match jerking speed to reeling but frequently, you have to mix high-pitch jerk with slow pitch, then it will be problematic.
for high pitch jerking, you may have to do three or four turns of reeling per jerk. And This will consume you quickly and you may not be in a good rhythm.
Yes you want it to seem fluent I guess, if the speed of the reel cannont take in enough line fast enough your going to get tip wrapped and if you hook into something it will break the rod. you have to match the speed of the reel to the speed your jigging. for example I put my reel in low speed to see how it was. Iwas turning the handle so fast but the jig wasnt getting the same action. if your doing the slow jig where your just kinda lifting the rod up and down a lower ratio will work ok.

Like I have said in the past all my fish have been caught with speed jigging, I think since people started talking about slow jigging and all this other stuff its complicated the whole thing.

imo to really learn you need to get ona boat with just your jig setup and dedicate a few trips to just jig, even when your arm wants to fall off keep jigging. dont think about the pain think about the reward.

its funny when I do pick up a rod with bait everyone looks at me like damn your stoping ? lol

Jeebus, this crap sounds complicated. It's just a step short of effing thermodynamics trying to figure out what the heck y'all are blabbering about, ratio's grams, metered line, solve for x by carrying the gotdamn 1 then dividing by the price of cabbage in North Korea.

I guess I'll have to stick with trolling and bait on the bottom lol.

LOL, yeah, and I was using a rod designed for Musky fishing too. But hey, I did hook and fight some more bruisers on it too! Musky rods are designed for big fish and casting big heavy lures, so it wasn't too wacky of a choice. The reel was a 6000 size Medalist, (that's a blinged-out version of a Battle) with 4.6 ratio. My only complaint is I'd like to use a shorter rod with a more parabolic action for this style of fishing though. :reeling:

But definitely, "dont over think it" unless you're gonna turn pro or something, lol.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. 5k battle with 35lbs power pro and 100g bass pro Williamson abyss knockoff jigs in pink lemonade color.

Service your reel regularly and use 60lbs fluoro. Don't get too heavy of a rod.

I've yet to see someone come up with more bang for the buck than that rig.

People don't realize how powerful modern medium tackle is, but your arms and shoulders will thank you.

And if you're going spinner I recommend erring on the side of a higher gear ratio.

Don't buy a bigger reel just because it has a higher model number. The Penn battle 6k has the same drag as the 5k so there is no advantage. Both hold more braid than you'll ever need. Don't waste money buying braid way higher than your drag max either. Teeth will cut through 100lbs leader just as good as 50.

Battle 5k has 25 lbs of drag just like the 6k, buy it weighs 10 percent less. And it holds 300 yards of 30lbs braid. I get almost that much 35 on there and have never needed even close to that.

What is the biggest thing you have landed jigging with that setup ? I have a few Daiwa Certae that I was thinking of using for jigging but not sure I want to mess with big ajs on them.

That's basically my setup with a 550ssg instead of battle. Only difference is its 4.6-1 instead of 5.6-1 but I have reels w/ higher gear incase it doesn't work out... What's your idea of too heavy of a rod? mine is rated 50-100lb braid 112-200g I don't think I'd go any lower because below this most models drop rating too low for my liking. A beating on the arms is no issue for me aside from my size 6' 240lbs I played baseball forever and if I can swing a 34oz bat all day I can definitely jig for 1/2 to 3/4 of the day I need to get the guns looking polished again anyways.
BTW I have a shop that sells all the willamson jigs, abyss, benthos, flutter all for like 6.99-8$ way cheaper than BPS or Dicks which I have to go return some at tomorrow lol flipping capitalists. And he's got others too, the gomokus and some other brands too . PM me if anybody wants info.

What model do you have? And is it the HA version or regular cuz the HA don't hold even hold that much mono but the regular holds a little more. The gear ratio is good on both but I'd be worried about how much braid you could hold especially if you want AJ's

I have the 2500R , 2500 HA, and 3500. I wouldn't use them for amberjacks if that was the target species. I have a Stella 8000 and 20000 for them. Just want to know if he has landed anything of size on the 5000 Battle. I have no doubt that the 3500 would land a decent aj but wouldn't want to hook one over 30 lbs or so on it.

I use the heaviest version of that tiger lite. Its got some pulling power, and is fine for the occasional jigging that I do, shitty reel seat, but can't beat the price. Got it for 50 bucks from Dicks when they were running a promotion.

I also use a stradic 5000 with a medium trevala, and have caught a few kings, and bonita on it, and is an extremely fun set up to fish with. Not much stopping power, but around no structure, I know it can land better grade fish.

I still don't get how you guys can jig all day offshore. It's a cool way to fish, but if your marking, and they aren't biting after a few passes, drop a damn bait down lol.

Yea I looked at the xheavy but idk there was just epoxy dripped all over the 2 they had and I was only planning on using 40-50 braid so I said f it and went with the model down from yours. Of course I paid 70 then got a $10 off 50 or more the next day and they ripped me off the jigs good thing they ain't used yet...Yea reel seat isn't top line but hell most of the rods I buy these days don't even want to fit my older reels I'm glad the tiger fit it. I wouldn't jig all day cuz I like the bottom too but probably most of it lol

It's a day on the water, anything past clearing the inlet and it's already good day. Little woman and I will be driving up from Key West the night prior, she's got family up there so I'm certain all my money will be spent while we're fishing.

Mind giving me a quick list of what to bring with and where to be?

I fish 60 lb JB which breaks in the high 70s or so. Landed ajs to 70 lbs on my mismatched setup of a Stella 8000 on Star Paraflex and never had an issue . Not sure I would want to try it on 35 lb braid though.
