At night I will sometimes bait a few of the hooks, I do not jig it then I just set it on the rail and let the motion of the ocean do the work with the baited hooks

Jan is a great time to be fishing in Florida, but not really a great time to be catching. It's really a great time to be learning because it's slow and there's time to kind of figure out what you are doing.

For the x-rap use a size 10. Glass ghost color is your #1 prospecting lure while you're getting the hang of it. You should be able to cast a size 10 xrap a country mile. If you can't get lighter line or a reel designed to handle lighter braid.

For the gotcha make sure it's the plain silver metal body with an orange head. None of that mylar/glitter/bucktail garbage.

In fact silver or white with a red head is probably the best color combination for any lure if you had to choose just one.

If the mackerel are around they're going to be chasing either lure so you'll see em even if they don't hit it. Once you see that just keep casting back. Try working the lures faster or slower until they strike and then repeat.

You can catch anything that swims on a size 10 glass ghost xrap. I mean anything.

I've gone to fishing old school on two rods and Asian on the third. Or sometimes two hooks old school and one hook Asian on the same rod. Sometimes it's just the bling getting hit but more times it's one hook of the three getting more hits than the other two. But I always have a three quarter inch piece of pearl white rubber worm threaded onto the middle hook. Always

Do you ever use split shots with gotchas/xraps? I've heard some people do but I've also heard it messes up the movement of the lure.

naw don't put anything in front of it.... if you want it to dive deeper lower your rod tip and vise versa
