Could be years before the fishery returns to normal. Water conducts sound far better than air. Add an underwater cannon, 100 X's louder than a jet engine firing every 10 seconds for 3 months or so in grids so every area gets carpet bombed. Even the crab fishery will be affected.

Yes but the sooner we can completely eliminate our dependence on Middle East oil, the better, IMO.

They use this same technology in the Gulf...doesn't seem to have hurt the fishing there. The offshore area around the oil rigs out of Louisiana is one of the best YFT, red snapper, wahoo, marlin, etc fisheries in the US.

Rory we need to end our addiction to fossil fuels in the first place. However much like gulf crude, it'll be refined and sold over seas in. 6.00 a gallon markets. I also have an issue with the fact EPA is no longer in charge of over site. MMS the folks who brought us the Macando well blowout and at least a half dozen pipeline ruptures since they took over in 06, is currently the sole authority for offshore drilling. That brain trust ain't seen the ball since the kickoff. More importantly, Electric cars are reality and so is the fact Germany produced over half it's electricity form solar and wind last month. We can lead in this field or keep drilling. This is corporate profits, nothing more. The only reason we need Mid East oil is because Americans get pissed at politicians when OPEC raises oil prices. With out Light Sweet Crude, oil companies would either loose money or jack prices. Mid East crude is the cheapest to refine with the highest product yield. Tar sands is the most expensive with the lowest yield and highest waste. Close to 70% of tar sands crude is toxic waste. We don't need the oil! Other countries do. This is about the hundreds of billions of dollars that'll be made selling it to them. Which is fine except what do you think they'll be doing with all that toxic waste? Injecting it back into dry wells contaminating everything for miles. Meanwhile Siemens just powered a hospital with the solar panels on the new parking structure. Sooner or later someone or something is gonna drag this country into the 21st century in terms of energy. If it's China, they'll own the worlds economy for the next half century. That could be awkward.
