Pompano Fishing Pier 2013 to 2022 "ONLY REPORTS"

Hi, new to saltwater fishing here. I'm usually going after bass, snakeheads, bream, and catfish. Where are some productive piers in pompano/deerfield area, what kind of bait/lures should I bring/use, and what kind of fish are in those areas?

The fishing sucked. Then I get back to my car before the meter expires, only to find a ticket for expired meter. The damn meter scuzbag had issued the ticket while I was paying the meter. Not only that, he puts the time 10 minutes off (earlier) so now they probably won't believe me in court.

Hey, Beo, was it that BSO female deputy? She's the one I always see around the lot. Yes, even if you're at the paybox, adding more time, if you're already expired, they will toast you. Sorry, dude! But since this is a fishing site, fished Pompano today, sunrise to 11. Saw only a few macks come over the rail. Saw a huge school of goggleyes getting ripped by the macks north of the pier and out of casting range. They were out there but not at the pier. Also not at the pier, were pompano and bluefish. Saw one fat pomp and he broke off straight down. The good news is, there were huge schools of pinfish, gogs and 'hoo's, all for the taking. I stocked the freezer today. Woo-hoo!

Maybe it's just me but I think that's bullxxxt and should not be tolerated by any of us. I would bring a friend/roommate to court with me just to back up my version of the story. That's two against one. Maybe it's easier to pay the $40 but since the last time I called them out in court on this crap they leave my ride alone. And my case was dismissed.

I totally agree and am taking it to court. It's freakin' robbery man, and after I bend over backwards to get back to my car on time. As of now, I'm out $35 + meter fee.

Hit the pier today from about 2:00pm - 4:00pm, and no luck myself. Saw a few macks come over the rail and a few other type of fish I didn't know what the where, lol. Saw some groups of manatees though!

Hey guys, I work next door to a pretty big seafood distributor. Asked them if I can take any of their scrams that they would noramally throw away and they said "sure, no problem". Won't be able to get any till next week though. I figure it will make great cut bait, or at least great chum. Should be able to take home at least a gallon sized zip lock bag of assorted fresh fish scraps. I'll be happy to share with anyone on the pier (pompano) as it's all at no cost to me!

Did anybody find a pair of sunglasses at Pompano Pier on Sunday? I left them laying on the railing.

Description: Model -Reptile Niger, wire frame, dark red glass lenses.

Oh, and as for fishing, pretty slow but dropped one mack, and missed a hit on another.

Hit the pier yesterday. Pompano bites were red hot. I noticed shrimp worked much faster than sand flea when Pompano action is active. I saw one kid using shrimp catching pompano after pompano, size of 16" or longer while others using sand flea seemed slower. It seemed to me that he caught more fish than the rest of pompano gangs with sand fleas. One fish he failed to bring over the rail was as big as permit. I was very excited to see Pompano actions.

Anyway, as my usual routine, I cast my 3 oz spoon. Just out of first 5 casts, I got a luck catch of about 3lb fatty mack. It attacked my spoon as soon as it splashed on surface, about 100 yard out there. And then as usual, no fish for the rest of day.

Spiderman Strikes Again!!!

Yes sir, suddenly I hear this high-pitched whiny noise, I'm like "what is that???" I turn around to see a big guy holding on to a screaming little Spiderman pole, running up and down the pier chasing a running fish. As it turned out, he landed a big fat pomp! He said it was 4lb test line on that thing. Amazing!

Hit the pier 6 to 8 today. But forgot to bring bag of frozen sand fleas. Spent about 30 min to catch sand fleas. Rods were every 6 inch at Pompano zone. Long cast was only way to avoid tangle. Anyway, caught three pompanos and kept two. Not a bad day a the moment.

This has got to be the skanky-est, scuzziest, most low-class pier on the planet. Plus I haven't seen a decent fish caught there in like a month. I'm really starting to wonder how I can keep going there. If ever the saying "you get what you pay for" applies...

Got a late start today, but fished from about 10 till 1 p.m. Tide was out, water color was that nasty looking dark green, but the seaweed carpets were no longer a factor. Slight south current and the bait was thick; Pilchies, dines and gogs. Gogs were exceptionally skittish today. Got none, but not for lack of trying. The snook, on the other hand, know their territory and season well. At one point, I counted nine of them on the prowl, but every bait that was thrown at them was ignored totally. Bottom line, (pun intended) I jigged a bunch of bait that I salted and froze for another time. The really small runners are starting to show up and hog any bottom baits, but nothing to hoot about yet. I waited for the rain to come, but it never did and ended up spending the day in the hot sun and drinking 3 bottles of water to hydrate. We're definitely in the summer doldrums. Tight lines, bros!

I went out 5:30 ~ 7:30 afternoon with my two daughters. They caught baits, yellowish jack (I don't know the name) and pilchard. I got one decent hit on small live jack but hook was never set. I saw one guy catching many pilchards on sabiki so that I brought mine and caught a few sabiki. Then all of sudden, a rod next to me went crazy. I initially thought it was one of his sabiki rod caught a big jack but it wasn't. It was another rod and he got about 30" snook on 1/8 jig head with live pilchard. He was lucky the snook ran straight into shallow beach without any tangle. His line tangled my sabiki rod so that I had to ran with him until I cleared up my line.
Many people were so excited and no one seemed to have a bridge net and a kid jumped into the water up to his neck and caught the snook and unhooked it.
After taking some pictures, the snook got released good...

It was always fun and excitement to watch people naturally cooperating together to catch and release a big fish.
I had to leave about 10 min after snook release and he told me he got second snook hit but unhooked.

Maybe, live pilchard on small jig head is a way to go to catch snook from the pier at the moment?

Always fun to see this pier having some actions.

Greetings, my Brothers of the Wooden Plank! Today's fishing report is brought to you by Mahoney's Phoney Bologna! Brief summary: stay home or go somewhere else. The grandkids are visiting, so it's off to the pier in the heat of the day. Fished from about 11:00 a.m. to about 1:30 p.m. Conditions were horrible; flat calm, a 30 yard wide sand bar, black weedy bottom in the trench, and the outfall from the inlet turned the water that ugly puke green and the fish were on strike. Bait (3" pilchies) were thick and caught on a biki. Fish of the day was houndfish, for some unexplained reason. Probably because there was not much else. Saw one small runner come over the rail, and snook and cudas about half way out. I wonder if the Tee will ever open again. I guess the City can't figure out what to do with the pier? Any input here? Budget? Demolish it? Rebuild it? The entertainment for the day was two guys throwing an 8 foot castnet over the rail and netting bait. They did well, but how many million baits does one need? That's a rhetorical question. The finishing touch was a rain cell that came through and chased EVERYBODY off the pier and beach. It was a small tropical storm; rain coming sideways, hail, and you couldn't see past the end of the pier. Wind came in gusts about 50 mph. Visibility was tough but I thought I saw a waterspout just north and over the reef. Sadly, that was the most exciting part of the day. Drove home soaked, grabbed a brew and my bulldog, had a nappy and watched World Cup! Hey, I know it's a crappy report but I had to write about something, right? Better luck next time. Out!

Waterspout might suck up a school of pilchards and dropped them on someone's head like hail. Good thing you get out of there.
50mph wind is far worse than my craziest day in that pier.

Hey, thanks, King! If there ain't no fish, you may as well yuck it up a little. If I ain't catchin', I love to mess with the tourists. Example, today, this island gentleman was catching a mess of houndfish to make a stew, he said. So, these three touristas mosey up and say the inevitable, "What kind of fish is that?" Before he could answer, I chimed in, "Oh, that's a long jawed mud snapper!" Dude, they bought it. Then, took pictures. The island gentleman didn't blow my cover. I can't wait to explain my theory on the extremely rare (not you, Nilson)(When are you coming to get your burger?) ice-finned halibut. Thx for your cell #. Saturday, 7pm:

Well, it happened again! I put out a live pilchard on my 12lb spinner, targeting mackerel, and once again, Mr. Tarpon decides to eat it as a snack. This time though, I managed to hold on for a good 15 minutes, and gave the crowd a heck of a show! It was a good 80-100 lb slab of a fish, and it skyrocketed about 30 feet out a couple times, a spectacular sight!

There was some sort of festival at the beach, and the pier was super-crowded. I had to dodge dozens of spectators in addition to all the rods, then keep the line away from the (closed) Tee area, since the fish started heading East again (after crossing everybody’s lines in the other direction), and just to make it really challenging, then a damn boat starts coming in right towards my line. They finally got the message though, when the monster broke right near them and almost landed in the boat! How I held on so long is pretty amazing considering it all.

There was just no turning this fish with the gear I was using, (4000 size spinner with 12lb). My line only went one way the entire time, and I was pushing its limits, still it was looking like it was going to be a spooling. Finally, it popped. Show’s over folks!

Wow, these are the experiences that keep me going back. I went home with an empty cooler again, but with another fish story that I won’t soon forget.
