i found em to be kind of like that nasty greasy meat that bluefish is , except worse.....alot seem to have worms and that red fin rot....i tried em whole and filleted no skin .....its edible but on the side of, hard to stomach,,,,,if i had to define how they taste ?.....id say ...tastes like a combination of the freighter bilge slag and sewage treatment effluent discharge that lines our coasts..... literally dude , they did

Welcome! What pier did you go to?
The fishing was good; it was the catching that was bad. –A.K. Best

when you cook fish with stuff on it ...youre tasting mostly what it is you put on it ....youre not getting what the fish actually tastes like .....the person asked what "that fish" tastes like
to get a true reading of what fish by different species tastes like , you must cook with zero on it....and then also each species of fish tastes different if its cooked whole vs filleted , and fillet with skin on can taste different vs fillet with skin off
so to find out what fish actually tastes like ,,,it has to be cooked with zero on it
i dont always eat fish with zero on it ,,,,but, i do make a point to try each species a few times with zero on it , and whole vs fillet with zero , in order to get the true taste that mother nature is offering
if you put bread crumbs and melted chocolate on that "gulf kingfish" whiting... caught off ft laud coast as he stated....guess what wally ....its gonna taste like chocolate cake
so on top of it all,,,,,basically .....people throw out all kinds of recipes and say how this one or that one is good or bad ,,,,thats your own personal taste ....and your judgement is based mostly on the ingredients you put on the fish ,,,,not the actual fish itself when speaking of a particular "recipe"
....for the most part ,,,,it doesnt matter what kind of fish it is ,,,,,if you like the stuff youre putting on the fish ,,,,then most likely youre gonna like the plate
when someone is asking how a particular fish tastes, or if its good ........it doesnt do much good to offer them a recipe and give an opinion of whether its good or bad
most every fish out there is edible
ive caught many of those "gulf kingfish" off anglins "ft laud coast" , in different weeks.. and basically , half of the fish i got , had red fin rot , and red legions on them ,,, i also seen the same red fin rot on "whiting" that other people catch there in past years
i tried ones that didnt have red rot , and tried on a few occasions whole or fillet ....and got that result
now ....whiting caught somewhere away from here probably does taste pretty good .....but when that many of one species in one area , have that much red rot and legions ,,,,,then something is not right .....and he did ask about "whiting" he caught from laud pier
so ralph....cook some with nothing on it ,,,,,and then get back to me about "what that fish"...."actually" ....tastes like
