all i can say is that it sucked out there. i dont recall even seeing a person land a fish while i was on the north jetty for a little bit from around 7:30am to about 8:30am. moved to the rocks with my live mojarra and i think i had small snappers pecking at it or something not of size. went from the rocks to the catwalk and Oh my was it just as worse. shoulda brought the boog instead and surfed the waves outside of monster hole. oh yeah i forgot about the bait situation.... its all over in the river with mullet, pilchards and mojarra.

Just like Fix said nothing was happening there today... I was the lucky one who drew the winning lottery ticket... Got a nice Flounder and a few small jacks.
Still want my Snook! :-p

There is a bunch of finger mullet but the full run is not there yet. Maybe another week. I did not see many fish ripping the bait up yet. I am guess the key is the bluefish eating up the bait, then it'll be the full run.

didn't even see mullet there at the time. they could have been down low. the storms are screwing things up for the mullet run i think.

The storms help. You guys are just losing patience. The fish will be coming soon. Until they start heading south on the run, you'll be a hit or miss kind of day fishing. I am waiting. I have a lot further ride than you guys to come there and catch.

I got a two hrs drive to get to SI...

Right at sunset, there was a huge bait ball of mullet. The surf went out and spook it and it went north. It was just a little out of reach to cast to them from the beach. Mullet run isn't here yet, well the full run at least. Mullet is around the north pier around 10am when they showed up. Very small pods and one big one. No fish attacking them though.

Was out there again. Got there around 6am and the guy that was fishing there got a snook right at the 28" mark. I helped him landed it with my hoop net. I was thinking to myself, it's going to be a nice day to be fishing! Ended up with nothing hehehe.

Talked with another guy that was fishing there before I got there, he said he caught a bunch of reds around 5-6am and the bite stopped after that. People weren't catching much, saw a few reds and jacks only(like 1-2 reds). Around 12pm however, a big school of mullets came close to the end of the north pier and 3 people hook onto red fish at the same time.

The boat however that was on top of the school of mullet was catching what I believe to be snook very often.

There's also too much seaweed....Water from the inlet is still dirty brown. Too many surfer on the beach side as well. They also jump into the water from the pier, right at the spot I was fishing... no comment...

didn't even fish the inlet but i met up with Killula after sharkin somewhere else. he only managed a big ladyfish which he gave to me. other then that it was dead out there and that was from 10pm till i left which was after 12am. we where just chillin on the south side so i dont know if the north is producing.

I wanted to report Fri 9/14. I haven't posted here in awhile and just wanted to give a little back to this forum that helped me so much in the past. My first time fishing Sebastian so I didn't know what to bring a trip over to the local bait and tackle store helped out a lot. Light rigs 15-20lb is all that is needed on spinner or casting conventional whichever u work best with. The south side produced catfish and lady fish. I met up with Desmond (fixed80) and was guided to fish the north jetty on the south side casting into the rip current and doing the snook shuffle. I fought 2 keeper redfish. One for myself and one for my neighbor who invited me. I saw 6 snook landed. 4 of them keepers and 2 over slots. About 4 reds landed including mine, a black drum, and a large 6 lb mangrove. All doing g the snook shuffle. The locals are king me its going to get better and better from now try winter so I'm looking forward to coming back. The fish were caught on shrimp, croakers, pigfish, and finger mullet. The jig fishermen didn't have any luck that night. Going back next Friday night, hope to see some of you there.

My first keeper redfish. Taste was decent but filleting them sucked and very little meat for how big these fish are. Meat is a little oily and easy to cook and came out very tender.

This Friday I'm coming home with my 1st slot snook and can't wait to taste it for the first time.

Check out the action at the inlet!!! this was a couple of weeks ago during hurricane Isaac. I cant believe there were no fisherman there!! that frenzy is epic!!

Hey guys I'm planning on hitting the inlet tomorrow for the first time. Any tips on what to target there and the kind of gear needed? Should I bring my big tackle such as my saltist lever drag, or should I just bring some lighter inshore stuff like a stradic 4000? I want to bottom fish and also try my hand at snook or redfish.

Oh really? thats what I need to bring? Thanks great! lol enough sarcasm. So I was out there friday and saturday morning. Friday was good, saw about 7 schools of mullet come through and the snook blasted them in the surf. Was not really prepared for a certain species, so I tied together a dropper rig with 12 pound fluoro and tried to get it underneath the north jetty. Ended up taking home 2 nice snapper. Saw a guy hook a snook from the beach along the rocks, but it was 34 inches and returned gently. A guy at the end also hooked a 3 or 4 ft nurse shark. A couple of spanish macks also brought up. Overall pretty good day with some intense current. Saturday morning was also good, this time it was a river of mullet coming through the whole day. Unfortunately, the snook were not biting as often throughout the day because of a surfing competition and divers swimming along the rocks. That's not to say it was a bad day though, around 7 am I got hit by a snook on live mullet, but the hook pulled probably 20 seconds into the fight. I got only the head of my bait back and looks like the hook turned and rehooked the bait . I rerigged the leader and cast another mullet out. Stupid me forgot to set my clicker though and had the spool locked. Took maybe 3 minutes and then I had a huge hit that almost took my pier cart and rod into the ocean. I set the hook, and it went totally slack! About 10 seconds later I see a big shark come up and disappear, and I reel in my frayed leader . Fun action early in the morning, but once the surfers and boats showed up, the bite slowed down a lot. One nice guy next to me hooked a big snook around noon. Ended up bringing it onto the pier, but was 36 inches. He lowered it back down with his net and the fish swam off. Overall, it was a great time and I can't wait to come back more prepared.

P.S. I hear that red's have been tearign up topwaters this past month. I didn't see any caught, but how exactly would you target them? Is the bite better during early morning before the sun comes up or at night? THanks

Id get a skitter walk (rapala) in red (yes red) or charteuse! Or, I have had luck on bass poppers as well! Try out a couple... I also recommend a sub xrap, it has a walking dog action a foot underwater! With those three you should be covered!

i arrived at Sebastian inlet just after 6pm this evening and saw thousands of roe mullet(hopefully there ain't no commercial guy reading this lol) swarming inside the inlet and getting busted on. so i started off on the south jetty but way further in with a 2oz spoon and caught 2 small ladyfish. after casting a few more times the line decides to break and the spoon does a missile out to the channel(dont you just hate it when that happens) so i put a smaller spoon on and worked the beach for like 2 minutes... then left and went over to the north side. busted out the 6/0 but before i drifted a bait out some guy reeled a redfish in but the head was all that was left. a shark got it. i knew i was in for it so i casted out and let the bait freeline out. few minutes goes by and wham im on. it burned some f%k8n line off the reel and then let go. second drift another shark came on but then the line broke. after a few more drifts i left.

Bummer....if anyone feels your pain, its me. How were the conditions out there as far as water clarity and seaweed? I wana come down next weeknd, but not if im gona spend all day fightin with seaweed

im not totally sure how bad the water clarity was since i got there so late but the bait fish will override that. as for the seaweed... not much at all at least on that day. usually weed gets bad when the wind is constantly onshore(East wind).

Some times on an outgoing tide crabs flow through the inlet in big numbers. The crabs are usually on top of the water and a topwater plug (one with good hooks) can be thrown up current and let it drift back with the current just reel up the slack line. I have seen big reds tailing in the middle of the inlet just picking off the crabs as they come by, A very cool sight. Some popular colors are yellow, orange, red, black, and any combination.

I don't know if this is what your talking about but I have seen this happen enough times to keep a topwater plug handy when fishing the inlet.
