Sebastian Inlet "Fishing Reports" 2009-2010

went today caught one red but lost another one. action was somewhat steady with mostly redfish, few blues, macks, and jacks. btw there were drum and catfish too.
so overall......... not a bad bad day but November and December is coming up.
so rshield, get ready for the 40's this year and the 80's as well.

Thanks Sharker, great pictures including my back in one of them. there were lots of red including many keepers today mostly on finger mullet. I however, tried cut shrimp for blk drum and caught 4 nice ones but lost couple. I also pulled in a large red on cut shrimp surprisingly but only lost into rock during netting attempt.

Fixed, see you out there. Going to Chicago tomorrow but next week like Wednesday through Friday I'm making a detour over to the inlet for one full day........or at least a half on a good tide.

fished this early morning till 11am and this is a few pics on what was happening out there.
if anybody needs bait its all down there. just go, get to the end
if you can and catch em.



BTW rshield... had 5 more but the small circle hook didn't catch.

are good to go down there...

and yes is Jetty park right. the right tide(outgoing) during the right time of day(i added that one in there), and the right bait(mullet this time)..... you will catch fish especially drifting your baits out of the inlet off the T if you can withstand angler's feudin.LOL

Nice Report.. I'm heading for a trip Friday morning HT at 8:46 so I'll have a few hours on the incomming. I plan to stay through the day at least through LT 3:00PM so I get into the out going and see what I can bag.

mostly jacks around 6 - 10 pounds came through during the first 3 hours of outgoing tide. they were caught on live finger mullet.
after that it was dead until the tide switched over at 5:30pm or so.
oh yeah the reds were more active on the tide change as well as a few blues a ladies.
my jack about 10 pounds.


this dude fought a shark for over 1 hour and some change. him and his partner took turns on the 3 1/2 foot long bull shark. BTW... with two men fighting the fish each the battle was like 2 hours long or what it seemed like to everyone else










i caught two jacks, one cat and one lady. the only pic of my fish was the bigger jack im holding up.

it sucked out there today. winds were light(although pleasant), and the mullet were thick... but not much going on up there at all. while fishing for about 5 hours or so, i saw 2 muttons, a few reds(I mean a few too), maybe 4 small jacks if not less, one snook, some macks and thats it. BTW its nice meeting you rshield even though you were leaving and i was busy putting mullet in my bucket. again, it was great seeing you out there
at S.I.

I think the morning killed the afternoon today according to rshield. mostly jack a quite a few big ones he said which is alright with me(jacks are my favorite to catch also).
mr. rshield.... when November comes or better yet December the bite should kick up full
blast hopefully. last year was just amazing so lets see if this year is too.
hope you can make it that time.

looks light next week may be calm. i might use the advantage to shark somewhere if im not busy.

Good to see you out there Fixed. I got there before light and passed you at 1:00 when I was leaving. It was better in the AM today for sure.
I pulled a red over 30", 2 Muttons both short, A Jack about 16lbs and a keeper Mac about 5lbs. It was a good trip. Current was heading south with a rip into the inlet because the tide was comming in. First light bait was everywhere and the Jacks came through like buzz saws, this is where I hooked into my 15 minute Jack fight on a pinfish freelined coming into the inlet. I was throwing live shrimp for awhile and brought in the two Muttons both about 12-13 inched, kept throwing the live shrimp letting the current trail it through about 200 yards and this is when I got the Mac - which was a sweet fight, I love when a Mac gets his after burner moving with the current and waves working against you - feels like your pulling against a basketball sized puffer with a rocket up it's ars. Well I cooled his jets and I just got done dipping the last peice of Mr. Mac in some spicey hot injected tartar sauce. Wifey made the dinner when I got home. The reds I got early right after first light. The red was caught on freelining pinfish on the inlet side of the North Jetty. I was sure glad that there was a father son team I was talking with because his son was aces on the net. When anyone hooked up this kid, about 12 years old would have the net in the water and he was damn good on the net. Thanks for the help. Several regulars pulled up about 9 or so keeper Black Drum and one of the regulars pulled up what looked to be at least a 40+"red that was as round as Jaylo's south side. Also saw some ladyfish come over the side. Great day at the inlet. I did not see any snook come over. Bait was everywhere, finger mullett,greenies and hag mullett. Look forward to my next trip up there. I'm taking a camera next time and will post some shots.
I was out there last year and it was a Blast, looking forward to it this year too.

I wanted to know, which spot in the inlet is best area to fish for flounder. Because some reason that I never caught any flounder in Sebastian but yet i can always catch at least 1 everytime I go to jetty park.

Sebastian inlet takes time to figure it out. jetty park is a little bit easier(i would think but i could be wrong though)and you have little or hardly any current in some spots which makes the bait easier to place in front of a flounder.
but Sebastian... tricky. it is nothing but rolling current through there. plus the place doesn't get raked out ever so hundreds of thousands of hooks, line, rocks, and sinkers stay down there for ever causing anglers to get p!$$ed off and they leave all frustrated

but from what i heard, the best flounder spots are west of the bridge. on the north side of inlet, anglers usually target them from the south part of the tide pool rocks and all the way to the mangroves. now on the south side of the inlet, people target them east or west of the bridge. where the restrooms are and the L dock....... is better since the current aint as strong.

but like JP said.... he fishes the port cuz he knows that area real well
and he catches flounder.

I have caught (and seen) flounder all over the inlet, both sides of the bridge. So they can be pretty much anywhere, but slack tide is your friend.

wind: north west
fish caught: red fish, bluefish, jacks, ladyfish, catfish, mackrel

yeah, it was an unbelievable day cuz the redfish were on the surface busting bait everywhere. i ended up with 2 reds and lost 3.
and two macks which i gave both to someone else.

almost every several seconds go by this is what you see during the heated time
of the bite.

similar thing happened on Thus as well when I was there. I did not have the right baits (large live shrimp or figer mullet) but I still landed several large blues and lost couple of large ones I believed reds. Saw quite a few reds landed all the time. The price I got were a nice blk drums on fresh clam.

Great pics Nelson...it was a blast, even though my luck with the bull reds wasn't great. That was my first trip to Sebastian, definitely worth the drive, I will be heading back up there soon.
