Pat donated a runner for bait and I landed a 6 ft or so blacktip on. Other than sharks and runners nothing else going on. There was a dozen or so big spinners and tips cruising the length of the pier all morning with a few hookups. No macks blues pompano or cobia when we left around ten.
Nice job on the tip. Fun to catch.

I hit the pier... Yes, I did!!! Wed afternoon for an hour, got a few mackeral, and quickly realized why I don't fish piers and left. There should be a sign when you enter "Respect Others Personal Space". Ummm.. If there is 20 feet between me and the guy to my right, is there a reason why one must feel the need to fish 3 feet to my left?

that's nothin... how pee'd off can you get if there is no one 50 feet to your right and left, but the only person far away(70ft)
decides to quite his spot, walks all the way towards you and then the mutha......... sets his rod inches(not feet) away from yours.
whooooooooooa, whoooooooooooa... thats really not cool. this has happened to me fishing a causeway bridge now you know that bad.

I enjoy my space on a pier. You can always ask politely if they can get the fahq away from your gear.

Last time I was there I almost had an old skool knife fight with the locals over a breader snook. Learned something that day I'm not the law, nor do I want to be.

Boca, be careful it is not worth dying over for a fish. I know you are doing the right thing but there are other ways to get things done without losing your life.

How about a "Press" card on your hat and camera and do a full cover story along with their name and address. Just don't tell them you are working freelance for the FWC newsletter. :batman:

I have seen many snook over the years smuggled out in the middle of the night with no regard to season or slot. The confrontation isn't worth it, too many " loose canons" out there. Call the FWC !

and we all know that just about every pier(where snook can be caught) has poaching/smuggling, not just LWP.
really it doesn't matter if its a pier, canal, lake, river, beach, or inlet... there will always
be individuals that will take what they want regardless of
the rules and regulations of fresh and saltwater species. and of course it would be very bad to get into a fierce
confrontation over a snook and get your or even the other dude's life cut short.
best thing to do is not tell. you can probable give a description of the person to an fwc officer or the guy that collects the
Admission fee but that's about it.

3/14/10 on the LWP

Macks and sharks

Macks had pretty much died off when I got there around 10. Managed to get a few and toss the heads out to the sharks.

Went 1 for 3 on the big boys. Gave the new to me/used ebay jigmaster a workout. God, the drag is POS on that thing.

The authorities were'nt happy when a 6' blacktip did 2 airshows 30' off the beach on a Sunday afternoon.

They need to :chillpill:

Crappy cell phone pick.

Few macks in the morning. Large school north of the pier never came in.

Clear and flat. No sharks. No cobes.

True that. It's pretty nerve racking getting in that water to wade out and cast...

And thanks for the report charlie.

3/16/2010 8-11am on the LWP

No macks to be found. Nice small runners.

Ballooned one out for an hour, got bored, cut his tail off and threw it to the sharks just off the beach.

Tested the rebuilt drag on the jiggy = 5' blacktip

Sheeps head are still around fat and thick. Bring a winch.

3-16-10 From 1:00-6:30PM Macs came in about 4:00 brought up a few that were small but give away keepers, landed a few runners killing time while looking for any rays or drive by's of Cobia. Gave the runners to the sharkers. No Cobia, a few smaller rays ran by without any company. Watched spinners jumping out of the water crashing bait out in the distance always a cool sight. A few guys trying for spinners had a few hits and were cut off. No sharks fought or landed but several spinners cruising close to the pier.

I've seen allot of spinners there since last week. I've been to LW 6 times in this past ten days looking for cobia but the spinners have been in the thick there for sure. Last Thursday the waves were high and you could see three and four in a row at the tip of the pier like body surfing through the waves crashing through the macs and runnners. Allot of macs were cut in half trying to get them on the pier after they were hooked. Sunday they were thick in the inside of the surf, I hooked into one on a mac ballooned out and had a good fight on my new rod the other day. They were defenitely cruising yesterday too.

march 20th 7-11:30.

decided to give it a shot today. got to see the familiar faces, and in general lots of people due to the long awaited spring weather. no macks or cobes... till i left. but looks like there were many keeper cobes over the 30 lb range caught during sci lab and math class yesterday :nilly:

but there were lots of runners and other junk fish going after your bait today. caught a few. cut them up, toss them out at the 1st hut for the spinners and blacktips cruising. There was a really nice man (if your on here, then :toast: ) that gave me a rig when i ran out and gave me a few sharking tips. While he was busy tying, his rod went off and let me reel it in. had a really nice run and about 3 jumps (big spinner), then somehow popped off, but definately not an operator error. Cant believe i forgot to bring my shark tackle box :jester: Well thats about it for today, i will be at dania market tommorow sometime eary afternoon.

oh yea....there were a bunch of sheepshead and cudas glued to the pilings, not willing to bite anything
