I was there too. I was packing up my stuff, when the first mack hit. Then it was on.

I went thru every jig I had with me, a few of my buddys, and some kids soft baits.

Fished for Pomps this morning at the pier. Never had a bite. Fished jigs the whole time I was there.
Heard from a little birdy that they were solid on the beach north of Jupiter inlet. Got to the beach around 1:00 pm (fished slightly north of Blowing Rock). Missed one on the first cast, caught one on the second cast and then it was pretty much all you wanted. Ended up with 10 beauties fishing with my son. Could of kept catching them but didnt want to be greedy. All fish were caught on jigs right from the beach.
Commercial guys and other boaters were crushing em out in about 10' - 15' feet of water. There was one boat directly in front of where I was casting with four guys fishing. They constantly had one, two or three on until they limited out and move on. Spoke to a few other guys who mentioned that they we pretty much biting that way all day long.

Glad to see the Macks and Pomps returning nicely to our area

Later in the day the macks thinned out but I did help Bobby (Snaper snatcher I think) catch his limit..
My biggest mack was like 3.5lbs I also got some larger blues like 5-6lbs..
I also lost aking that was like 26 or 27 inches on the flip but I didn't care that much.

Nice catch Rory, and even better that you were able to make it through a mackeral run on the weekend at Juno without getting hooked. I heard the macks were solid at the pier and since it was the weekend that means a billion gotchas flying around. Headed to the beach instead and did real well.

It was crowded, but most people were pretty good about moving over and under to land each others fish. I only saw one fight, some crabby old tourist kept yelling at other people when he was the one casting over their lines, because he thought he was entitled to 20 feet of space on each side of him, he yelled at the wrong brother and I thought the guy was going to go over the rail for a swim

No smoker yet. Made ceviche with one, one for the dog and froze the rest for the sharks. I'm not a fan at all of eating macs except for ceviche. Shark season in the Keys will be here before you know it.

Yeah, it was sorta like combat fishing... Reminded me to much of the anglins pomp run.

this is great news. i wonder if the rest of the week is going to be good considering the north blow later throught the week and rougher seas.

No mackeral the last two mornings. No Cobia, no sharks. Just some runners and a couple pomps. Maybe it will be better later in the week.

The Macs at Juno are too smart to bite on a trolley rig.....they have a jig/gotcha fettish!!

Trollies are for clowns that close thier eyes, cross thier fingers, and hope for a miracle. Lures are all you need at Juno in the winter, not sure what anyone plans on trollying anyways there isnt any bait here right now. Basically Zebco do me a favor and keep the circus down there, we already have the flying gotcha crowd and thats dangerous enough.

I don't think he means the gotchas themselves

I meant the certain people.
And while on the Gotcha subject, I'll never get why they fish them so much and not the Krocs. Every time we are there wasting Macks, we catch them so much faster on the spoons,,, and more. Just have to fish them right. And not having to jig something means less chance of cutoffs.

Gotchas are googan because they are the first thing that the bait house and every local tackle tells the tourists to buy. They are small, heavy, and have two trebles. So every time one of the tourist swings them around or has them come flying out of the soft mouth of a mackeral or ladyfish they are freaking dangerous. I have seen more people hooked by gotchas on the pier then every other lure or rig combined. It gets really dangerous because you have 100 googans on the T all throwing Gotchas during a mackeral run and they dont know how to cast or flip a fish. It would be a lot safer with a single hooked lure like a sidewinder, glass minnow jig, or crappie jig, and when the mackeral are solid you dont need a gotcha to catch fish on every cast, anything will work.

But trolly rigs are still worse.

Fished the north beach yesterday. Noticed the sand pumper south of the peir and wondered if it hurt the fishing. Broke a mystery fish off on 6# test, (yes I surf fish jigs with 6#). Tons of birds and fish busting the beach line. Other than that no baits on the squid rigs for the shark rod. Nice day......... warm anyway.

surprisingly juno has been the same pretty much in my opinion since the sand pump...
its either really good or completely dead.

Thats how Juno has always been in the winter since it reopened. Either the Cobes are on the beach, the mack schools are hanging around, the Tips are moving through or there isnt a single fish caught all day, always been like that. Its all about water temps moving the fish down here from Pecks Lake and further north.
