An Improbable Catch - American Beach 10/2

Hit American Beach Friday looking for the elusive Pompano. Used a spread of 5. Three baited with shrimp/clam/flea, one with cut mullet and the other with crab halves. The action was slow for the first hour, only landing two Pomps 2 inches under legal. But then came a surprise. On my 11' Lamiglas Surf King with the Blue Yonder baited with a piece of shrimp and a sandflea with it's 2/0 Gami hooks I got into a major fight. When I saw the critter make an amazing leap right after he was hooked and splash down into the water I prepared myself just to enjoy this fight for the little time I was sure it would last.
