A giant 3 oz spoon on the outgoing casted as far out as possible and just keep feeding it line.

Watch out for the mass migration of cownose rays, I've accidentally hooked 3 or 4 the last 2 nights down there. They're a serious pain in the sack.

Hello all. NO kidding about the stingrays. Last winter I foul hooked a 6 footer with a bucktail in Sebastian. A normal person would have just cut the line and consider it a loss, but I hate losing $8 bucktails, so I fought the bastard.


...I still have nightmares about it.

Yes, luckily i did get my bucktail back, but it wasn't easy. I had a buddy hold my rod while I climbed down the ladder of the pier (NOT recommended) with some pliers and ripped my bucktail out of its fin. I'm sure the poor bastard its scared for life, but it's OK. So am I.

The last few night have pretty much sucked. The influx of tourists, and a few ignorant locals have made fishing the inlet near impossible. We persevere. Anyway, I did catch a few smaller fish. Here are a few pics, including one that I got off the catwalk just being a jackass.

The tourists haven't been much of a problem since the weekend. The people who have been down there lately are equally ignorant, throwing set lines and frozen bait. Then there are the local hillbillies, who for some reason never think to bring bait when the come down. They threw that stupid 10' cast net off the catwalk (into my drift) for almost 3 hrs last night before calling it a night. They never did catch any bait (or fish). I got 4 small ones, and I think I was lucky to get those. The water was too clear, and the moon was too bright.

It's about like anything else, I have good nights and slow nights. I rarely skunk, but fish over 35" don't come easy on fly tackle. Depending on what the tides are doing, and how many people are down there, I'll usually go 3 nights a week until September.

I switched to plugs at about 11 last night, the west wind was killing me. I took two casts to the back of the head.

I totally underestimated the ignorance and stupidity of the Saturday night crowd. I watch a boat slam the fender broadside, sending a little kid flying off the bow and into the inlet. I'm pretty sure he was cut to pieces trying to climb up the rocks east of the north catwalk. I felt bad for the kid, no doubt Dad had had a few too many bud lights.

-Anyway, still catching fish. But not many. This was the only fish I saw landed where I was at. Not a dink, but still not what I'm looking for.

Yeah, I know. I remember when they used to let you walk out on the fenders. I guess that goes for pretty much everything. All it takes is one idiot to ruin things for everyone else. Drunks are only funny when they're hurting themselves, nobody wants to see a little kid pitched into the inlet ( he came very close to going face-first into the last concrete piling on the catwalk).
With the gear I use, anything over 30" is a damn good time. I'm guessing the fish I caught last night was somewhere around 29"-30". I'm still figuring out what I can, and can't do with a fly rod out there. Nothing would make me happier than to land a 38"+ fish out there.

I did that after I posted. Looks like a cool place to fish. Its the same distance to that inlet as it is for me to fish the Keys bridges, Like 2 and a half hours away.

yea dont even bother on weekends. i loved fishing the inlet about 10am on weekdays but like jettypark said the weekends are just crazy. and not to scare you off but there are people that take advantage of the crowds and you do have some theft there. but its just like an other place. watch your stuff and dont go to far away from it. but.... crowd or no crowd once you've hooked and landed one of those monster reds you'll never leave.

2 nights, 41 snook. The bite is SICK!!!
