... I have 5 Hoos and they will have to do while I hunt for more out there. Sooner or later, one of us are going to sink the hook in to a 10 pounder.

Lots of Hoos ands Big Goggle eyes last night in the chum line, also summer baits inshore a good many this morning.

... I knew there were small baits somewhere close by. I had a few Macks the other day spitting them up, and they were fresh. Anyways, I will get bait out there of some sort. I might as well take advantage of the calm weather and catch a few snaps before the wind starts. I am getting burned out waiting down in close for basically no reason as of yet.

Those are some nice Macks, my personal favorite.

Ive been fishin all my life, moved to Florida here about 5 years ago, and am still learnin stuff.

I always gave up on macks after the sun went down, because I never caught any and they seemed to stop bitin then. But BF said you caught a nice one at 4am, is that normal to catch them at night or is that accidental. I thought they stop hunting at night. Whats the best way to target them at night (if possible)?

At night if they are feeding the best is a live bait or strip, it is not the norm though IMO

i was just east of the first house......fishing the south side. I was hoping to meet you there....anything on the t in the morning? an angler getting ready to leave stopped while I brought in the mack said he was there all night and saw 2 keeper muttons pre dawn. I wanted to walk out to the t but saw the action and threw out right away, before I knew it I was late for work!! Look forward to meeting you someday soon.

One more cast that was me you talked to this morning as your mackeral kept me from going home and going to bed. You didn't miss anything stayed about an hour after you left no more macks only a cuda. I saw about 30 or so bonefish all good size cruising in the surf but had already taken the tackle box to the truck and no one that I told was intrested in trying to catch one. Nice meeting you.

nice meeting you too....thx for the tip on leader strength....stopped at bass pro shop and picked up 30 and 40# flouro and replaced the tackle. Gonna try to take my dad fishing there on Saturday.....maybe see you guys then.

The bones were between the 2 and 3 rd light after the construction south side. They were rooting around on the bottom. Even when someone hooked and was fighting a cuda they came right back and kept feeding. The first time I ever saw bonefish out there I didn't know what they were thought maybe small tarpon and kept swimming pilchards at them well not bites. Then they turned and I saw what they were, each one then had to have gone over 8 lbs. at least if not more. Not alot of people target them but I have seen plenty caught esp. during the pompano run.
One more cast the leader with the macks comes down alot of times to do you want to hook 5 and get cut off a couple of times or hook 3 and land them all with heavier leader or light wire. Go as heavy as you can and get bit. Today I think you lost 3 or 4 to cutoffs and I lost none to cut offs of course I had no hook ups only trailers. When the water is clear like today they tend to be leader shy and I have fished straight 6 with 15 lb. leader just to get a hit. Then at other times fished 50 leader and killed them. All part of the game.

Good going boatless and troy, I'm giving you guys the headstart on the fishing for now, but when I get there on monday morning(god's willing), you guys just step back and watch the MASTER in action

Hope the fish and the weather cooperate on monday especially after reading about all the success all you guys are having.
Question, does sardines work well out there? and is there a site where I can find the legal keeper sizes and fish per person??

tried my luck again this morning around 6:45am......caught runners, jack, and 1 decent mack before having to leave just before 9am. Met bridge rat in the process....hope it picked up after I left.

Was there on friday got there about 7:30/8:00!Saw sum maks, hooked up on 1 but it spit the hook!Them caught a small AJ about 3,4 pound . Mike caght a small black tip bout 3 feet. Then it got really slow i only seen a little mak get brought up!I left about 5! Hopefully it will be better next wekend !

What? WHAT?

I telephoned Anglin's as soon as I read this.

There are no Permit "On the Board" for the past few days. That's the blackboard where they write what's been caught for everyone to see. It is possible there was Permit caught, and not reported to the tackle shop.

Does not mean "It ain't so", just that the tackle shop was not told or shown the fish if it is true.

When leaving the pier, it's always good to let the attendant know what's been caught so they can update the "Board".

... If the attendent knew of a Permit caught, then word would have been "They are catching hundreds of Permit out there" during a phone call.

Congrats. I was not doubting that one was caught. Just that it never made it too the board.

And you caught it on a Calico crab?

Back in the "good 'ole days", when fishing was slow at Anglin's, some of the regulars would tell them of all sorts of catches for the 'board', and when fishing heated up, kept mum.

The "consensus" was if people went and did not catch, they'd try another pier next time. So the regulars would try to encourage those trends, and try to keep the pier from getting too crowded.

Even telling tourists asking where to fish that Pompano or Dania were much better piers, and catching more fish, but they were here cause they could walk instead of having to drive. LOL

It's refreshing to find legitimate reports on the forum.

Of course, that sort of thing does not happen anymore.

Brought my son and a friend Friday between 7:30 and noon. BF was there and maybe a few other members I don't know. (I'm new)
We all bent rods on a few blue runners. My son caught a small toothy critter, and my young friend hooked a small yellowtail and what I was told is a trumpet fish-I've never seen one before. Checkout the neon blue spots-how is that camoflage?
I hooked something big enough to pull me under a rock- I kept pulling until I broke off. (':oops:')
A seasoned pier dweller suggested next time I wait until the critter comes out, and then bring him in. Can anyone tell me exactly how that works? Bottom fishing is pretty new to me. Saw a couple of nice macs, snapper and 1 grouper caught. Hope the pics come out okay-that's new to me as well.

Big Daddy alot of times when a fish rocks you up you can just put the reel back in free spool with the clicker on or for a spinner just loosen the drag and set the rod back down. Just be patient and wait a few minutes alot of times the fish will swim out when it no longer feels the pulling. Another trick is to put your sinker on a lighter line than you main then tie on a swivel put the swivel on your main line. In theory alot of times it is the sinker that snags and this way when it does the lighter lines breaks giving you your leader and hook and the fish if you have one on. This works great on rocky bottom.

Great report Big Daddy and yes the advise given by Fishnfool73 is great, so next time before breaking off attempt the method he explained, sometimes you will get the rocked fish.

... If you are fishing over the rocks "facing" the current, you will get rocked more frequently. If the case, then just switch to the other side of the pier. The current going away from you will help lift up your sinker from the bottom when you start pulling it in.
