hit the beach with the family today and left the big gear at home or at least the middle size gear....decide to use some light tackle and battle some fish..so i rigged up my 8ft 15-30lb stellar light with a avet mxl loaded with 65lb braid and a wire wire leader and headed out...first bait out was a live blue runner he got hit pretty fast and i lost the shark on the jump..im asumming it was a spinner..second bait out was a big butted pinfish..he also got hit pretty quick but once again a lost fish, broken swivel...3rd bait out was a 5-6 lb jack and he gets hit really quick also...fought the fish for about 10 minutes then a rock broke me off..by this time i was getting pretty steamed, but thats how light tackle goes..forth fish out was the great old florida pompano...he gets a very quick bite and i fought this little bull shark for about 15 minutes untill he landed on the beach...what a great fight i love the light tackle..some times you just have to slow down and enjoy what these fish like to do ...that is fight... and thanks to maneater (my girl) for catching all the bait..
during winter time i like to scale down and usaly switch to 9/0 but today it was even lighter..that was a little to light that bull was very tired and needed some reviveing.. i dont like to wear these fish out to much..some times its better to get them in quicker so they still have some energy to get home quicker..

So true . I am glad that you are a responsible , knowledgeable, and caring enough fishermen to realize that, as many don't . Kudos for taking the time to make sure the bull swam away.
Dreaming the dream that one day I can be as good as some of the boatless pros and catch some 12 inch mangrove snapper.
always do take the time to make sure they swim away ok,, i care very much about these fish and i want them to stay around so when my kids get older they can do what i do..some people never even get to see a shark in person.. some times we take it for granted
