Bakers Haulover Inlet - 2009 Fishing Reports Only

I must try Haulover,its not far from where I stay at my bro,s in Biscayne Park,I,ve never fished or been there but I heard the parking situation is tricky though

well, i went out there around 5am went to go get some fleas and very little but as i left my sandals near a beach chair, when i returned, they were gone. bul#$@%^! anyways proceeded to fish barefooted and caught a legal pomp around 14" and a small bluefish. other than that it sucked. water color was beautiful but like i said before its a little too early for us down here to get them thick. plenty of perfect sized scaled sardines but no macks. tight lines!

the parking is free and is located under the bridge (under collins)i dont have a problem with parking as much as i do the ignorant googan crowd that frequents there

Any reports after the cold front. I have decided to become an expert at Haulover but work schedule has other ideas. If it weren't for the mortgage I'd fish more and work much less.

Headed over to the inlet Saturday morning from 1:30-6:30. Caught a couple snapper, nothing worth keeping though. Around 4 AM the mullet were out in full force and the tarpon came right along with them. I was drifting some live shrimp but had no luck. Pretty unsuccessful night.

is anything bighting at haulover?

im thinking about going tomorrow after school for a couple of hours
going to take a light rod for spoons and jigs, is it worth it for me to bring a heavier rod to cast out a chunk, belly strip, or crab for bigger game?

Hello all,

I was thinking of giving old Haulover inlet a try since I got some time off on Friday the 26th. Do you think Santa would hook it up with a poon for Christmas? LOL
Are the Taron still out there? Were would I get select live baits in Dade county. I used to catch live bait but it's been so long since I wet a line in saltwater I would'nt know where to begin. I have a 11 year old that plays football so that, coupled with work has consumed my time. Any ideas? Any one going in the late afternoon?

fished from 8am till about 12:30
i figured the cold would bring in the macks, but all it did was scare away the bait
me and friend tossed every lure i had in my bag, and caught only one small runner
cast the runner out, it didnt get touched in 2 hours
beautiful weather nice chop, and water color, no fish
still better then sitting on my arse watching tv

when u see those wave clear the jetty, then thats the time to go though its dangerous and u might get soaked!

i went to fish haulover for the first time in years and i tryed to fish off the north jetty but they kicked me off it was low tide so under the bridge didnt have any luck.

Got a call hearing of some fish being caught at hualover so thuoght id give it a try.
Fished the beach south of the jetty from 6-10 am.Water was real nice.Saw a group of derelict fisherman at jetty geared up braving the waves.There was a few pompano caught early,but they were small fish.Did not deter the homies on the rock from boxing a few!Nothing was tossed back...

Other people were picking at the pilchards,slowly trying to fill the buckets.

My friend went to check em out and be a little nosy.
Conversation went something like this.

Chris:Hey.

Bumfisherman:"scowls and sais nothing".

Chris:Whathca guys doin?

Bumfisherman:"blank scowl"

Chris:Yous guys catchin anything?

Bumfisherman:No!

Chris:Whatchya usin for bait? We're using sandfleas.

Bumfisherman's friend:So are we

Bumfisherman:"Bum fisherman looks at his friend like wtf"

Called it quits emptyhanded at 10 and got breakfast.

Its is an ugly scene there most of the time. I wish the FWC would keep a better eye on that jetty. I've had too many bad encounters there and haven't fished it in years.
Its no wonder why the residents of that area want the parking lot closed.
If people were respectful, realized how few good shore bound fishing spot are left, and obeyed the laws i'm sure it wouldn't be such an issue.
The people that fish there should be very happy that the surfers (mostly the Surfrider Foundation - a group that protects beach access and surf breaks around the world) stood up to the wealth residents of Bal Harbour. Yes I know surfers and fisherman often have their difference. I both surf and fish so I know both sides. One day I may be on the jetty fishing and the next in the water surfing.
Just be happy its still open as a public access for both groups. Just think about the fact that there only good waves maybe 30 to 40 days a year if were lucky and you can fish 365 days a year.
Its sad fact that we as fisherman don't unit to protect our fishing areas and our fishing limits which are being taken from us faster than you think.
The other night I was shrimping on Key Biscayne and mentioned to the FWC officers that they need to check that place more often.

this is true! no one there believes in a limit period. its a shame cuz when the pomps are there, it rediculous. u could limit out in 3 casts, but a-holes and other greedy basatards dont care.
