Gator hunting 9/7

Got drawn for gator tags this year, my Dad flew down from Virginia to go out, he's been excited about it for the last 3 months. Whacked this little guy this morning (measured at 6'11", good eating size), wanted to get him one before he went home. Saving the other tag for a big one, saw plenty of 10 footers but they were being elusive.

Hit them with a .38 bangstick on top of the head. You hook them by snagging them with a weighted treble hook on a heavy spinning rod..they go ballistic once hooked, fighting harder then just about any fish I've caught. Once you get them close to the bank, hit it with a harpoon so you have a solid rope attached to it, and finally once its subdued hit it with the bangstick.

I did a trade with a processor for this one, they will keep the hide and I get the meat. Smaller ones like this are the best eating from what I've heard. If I get a big one with the 2nd tag, will probably pay to have both the hide and meat processed, and get something made with the skin.

University of Miami alumnus, Rory M. taking down a gator. We caught up to him and all he had to say was, I hate gators & gators fans!!! Very well said, but unfortunately that won't help the UM football program. When asked if he will be back for more gator hunting, he gave us an evil grin....How did this young lad get so good at hunting them gators...he said, ever heard of Bayou Billy? Enough said.... .As we were leaving we spotted over 60 to 80 gators. Plenty of them gators basking in the sun by the banks... a majestic animal.

Later on that evening, Rory got word of the spanking the Gators did to Eastern Michigan & shutting them down. We wanted to catch up and ask more questions to, Rory. We came back the next day & we didn't find the young gator hunter & more odd that we found no gators anywhere. All we did find was a University of Miami jersey hanging by a tree covered in blood. One can only wonder....

Nice gator man buddy of mine gets them and the smaller ones do taste a lot better. I don't know his recipe, but he seasons it for at least 12hrs then throws the legs on the barbie. They come out like giant chicken thighs... Delicious.

I actually was going to bring a UM jersey with me and take a picture of me wearing it with the dead gator. My buddy that I went with went to UF, so I would have to sneak the picture in. I'll try to do it for the next one.
