Yes, but read this part...
This section does not apply to a person lawfully defending life or property or performing official duties requiring the discharge of a firearm or to a person discharging a firearm on public roads or properties expressly approved for hunting by the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission or Florida Forest Service.

If someone is shooting at you across the street, pretty sure you can return fire. And you probably want to move out of the hood while you're at it, if people are shooting across the street at you.

I get the rubber bullet theory but hope you never have to put it to test. I have been hit with enough rubber bullets to know they probably aren't stopping someone. 9 mm has capacity but no stopping power. That being said the vast majority of home invasions are drug rips and burglar vs home owners are the home owners walking in on the crime in progress. Most burglars just want to get away.

I agree 100% with FFN7. Most of these idiots are out for EASY Prey, no one wants to WILLINGLY risk their lives lol. That being said, there are those other times when they come in ready to kill or be killed, ESPECIALLY when they are drugged up. Look up home invasion videos on liveleak and like sites bud. The reality out there will make you pack twice and three times too! Criminals LOVE gun laws, they are basically going to be followed and complied with by US the "people" making it easier for them, who could care less about laws to do what they do. BTW I dont know of any guns that have clips, they mostly (in case I miss one I dont know about) have Magazines, same for rifles. A rifle that uses a CLIP is the M1-Garand from WWII. :-)

As far as shooting over a paved road. FFN7, care to chime in bud? I always ask LEO, since I have EVERY interest of remaining within the confines of the law and making LEO's job easier, cuz everyone hates the Police till they NEED em... :pistols: :pistols: :pistols: :joker:

Once again, just my two cents.

Well I have several, but my beat-up Remington 870 is what stays in the closet next to my bed. Gun has been to hell and back using it for hunting, and works without a flaw. You can get one new for under $350 if you look around a bit, Bass Pro frequently has them on sale. They also make a tactical version with a shorter barrel and synthetic stock.

I would stick with a tried-and-true pump-action Remington, Winchester or Mossberg. You'll find some cheaper Chinese-made shotguns at gun shows, they probably would work fine, but is a situation where your life depends on it a time when you want to save $50?

Here are a couple thoughts..

http://www.cabelas.com/product/Winchest ... 343628.uts
http://www.cabelas.com/product/Remingto ... 709955.uts

Whatever you get, take it to a gun range and shoot it, and get very familiar with how it works. Make sure you can operate it in the dark if you need to.

Dog is also good. Our German shepherd is the sweetest dog with us and our baby. One night I came home late from fishing and wanted to see how she would react, so I pulled my shirt above my head and opened the front door..dog came bolting down the stairs with her hackles up and growling..she knew no one was supposed to be coming in the house unannounced at 3 AM. As soon as I showed my face she started licking me, lol.
Sheps are very, very protective of "their" house, family etc. and super sensitive to differences. Train one, and you have an alarm system and a protective force. Understand they're very high strung and nervous and they'll make sense. +1 on the shotgun.... Turkey loads are my preferred....

Yep...I guarantee you that this dog would give her life to protect us. This evening, someone was going door-to-door in our neighborhood selling ADT alarm services. The poor girl knocked on our door and Seneca started barking, I answered the door holding the dog's collar, the sales girl looked at us and said "I'm not going to even waste my time, it looks like you already have an alarm system"

I think the dog was a great choice of first defense. Even the little yappers are a deterrent as they alert everybody. They do have alot of false alarms though, like barking at cats or even just noises. I bet there is a place around that can help you train your dog and save you alot of headaches and early morning walks through the house.

Don't buy into that. Pitbull is not the problem, it's the owner of the dog. Any breed of dog can be taught to be aggressive. Either way, no pitbull in the city of dade. Head to the gun show if you have any idea of what you want and price range. At times you can get a better deal at a gunshow. There is one today at the youth fair camp grounds. Mossberg is a fine shotgun... but whatever you get, it will get the job done.

Hey Raul do you live in the same house we had the bbq at with Joe? If so i would definitely get a wood fence there are some shady people walking down that sidewalk and i was only there for a few hours. The reason i say that is if they cant see whats back there you ll be much better off. Keep all your valuble things that can be stolen in a shed with a pad lock. I bet you have some generators or pressure washers or something like that some crack head walking by seen and went and got the boys for a good ol fashion spree in your backyard. Point is out of sight out of mind. Even if you get a wood fence for the side that the sidewalk is on would be a good idea i think along with the dogs and shotgun. Since your mom is old an alarm with a one touch button to dispatch police or fire would probably be a good idea as well as one thats wired to the police. Piece of mind isnt cheap buddy i am glad no one got hurt.

Thanks FF73 I was hoping you would see this thread and offer your opinion for the obvious reason. And truth be known if I ever have to shoot the 9 in a home invasion situation I'm relying on the rapid fire noise to save my a$$ because I doubt I'll hit anything running away shooting over my shoulder. Hell, professional law enforcement rarely hit what they are shooting at in these situations and they are trained. What's the chance I would?

BTW Interesting piece on CNN tonight....80 year old man walks into his California house to find two burglars rand sacking his house. Fourth time he's been hit! Man and woman in their late 20's I think. He tries to stop them and they proceed to beat the crap out of him in his own house. Broken collarbone, cuts, bruises etc. Somehow he breaks free and gets his hands on his gun. (definitely wasn't locked in a gun case). He fires once and they run away. Great huh? Nope here's the bad part...as the woman is running down the alley she is screaming......"Please don't shoot me I'm pregnant"! Well the old boy decides to put two in her back as she is running away and kills her. Says he did what he had to. Nope.

Those are the facts. You decide the merits but I think he's going down. And even if he doesn't he's going to spend every cent he has ever earned trying to stay out of prison. And then he's going to be sued in civil court by her family for anything else that's left. Boys, I've worked too hard for everything I have in this world and I'm set for life. You think I'm going to lose it all over some piss ant thief that made the mistake of breaking into my house? Not to beat a dead horse but if his first three bullets were rubber................................ just sayin

I understand Richard's point of view moral of the story is the law protects the scumbags,i already put my signs bought bullets ,next time they come I pray the wont I will not give them any warnings when they start saying hello I will stay quiet ,because that's what they do to find out if there is no one so they can brake in and when they do ill be waiting I have a door and then I have a steel door old one but good ,the first one to come in I will turn him into swiss cheese ,I hope it will never happened .in God I trust and the crooks I crush :pistols:

FF already spoke how he feels about them ,I agreed.

Btw the law its a can of worms .

Richard my brother from another mother lol go to range and practice take out the rubber bullets put hollow points brotha :toast: no mercy your life goes first.

Lol, yep.

You are protected from any civil liability by stand-your-ground in FL. I've been following that case of the guy shooting the pregnant home invader as well. Feel bad for the unborn child, but not an ounce of sympathy for the woman...but being that this happened in Commiefornia, he will definitely go down for it.
