Fished Sunday afternoon, still no bait in sight and all I caught was one big-azz blowfish. Sheesh, when will this pier ever pick up again I wonder?

My question: why some of piers have no pilchards around, and some have tons of them? Do they (pilchards) understand - humans using nets to catch them at pier? i am keeping quite about spanish sradines - they really disappeared this season...

And the drought continues! Fished Pompano today, sunup to around 10:30 a.m. West wind, flat calm, clear water, very little current in any direction. Some guys are getting smart and staying home or going someplace else. Me? Well.................Anyway, the best I could do with my biki was some wrasse, the little slimey suckers that you don't want to handle to get off the hook. I did get one lizard fish on a piece of dead shrimp. Woop! Only other success was one dude got three barely keepable rainbow runners on live shrimp. I did see a school of huge (maybe 80-100 lbs) poons go from the beach to the tee, on the north side around 8 a.m. Must have been 12 to 15 of 'em. But, the day was not a total loss. It was nothing a shower, three fingers of good rum and a nap couldn't fix. Think I'm gonna head down to Dania next time. Tight lines, my brothers of the wooden plank! I'm out! :nilly:
Those other fish must be smart. We caught all the stupid ones!

The bottom would be dredged forming a humongous bowl shape that offers both sand and reef with a depth that ranges from 30 to 100 feet of water directly in front of the T. I could only imagine the fishing would be sweet with some deeper water.
8) A 200 ft T full of googs casting googanese trollies and a dredged hole that would fill itself in in no time. Best pier there was in South Florida was Haulover Pier. Not because of the area the pier was located, but because it was a pier, with an extended pier. Was a big pier. Until Andrew smoked it and Dade county decided to spend the replacement money on better things like Art Museums to please the crooked politicians down there.

Working on it Ron. How's 1800 feet out with 3 brick hut's and an octagon instead of a Tee sound? The Mayor and the Lauderdale CC is very intrested. But it's got a ways to go yet. It seem's some condo owners think they own the beach. We'll see about that.
Nice Boat! Now get it outa my driveway!

There is a deep dredge pit off Delray Beach which has not filled in for about two decades. However, there is little to no circulation so the bottom is anoxic meaning no life. It's a talking point with and environmentalist, anti-beach renourishment crowd. That is why sand is now dredged from long, shallow swaths rather than a deep hole. Unfortunately, if you want to fish deep water without a boat, you'll have to go to the west coast and fish a sheer cliff or canyon.

I don't see how you are gonna cast that rig. Looks like a reef rig while on a boat.

Fished Pompano this morning from about sunup to nearly noon. :happyfisherman: I'm embarrassed to have to waste this space Tommy provides to tell you my report is.......NOTHING! I mean, NOTHING! :( Stay home, sleep late, hit the snooze button, whatever. Seriously, tide was starting to come in, wind was northeast at 15+, a good chop on the water and good color with some seaweed kinda gathering in larger clumps but not a real factor as far as tangling in lines. I had such high hopes, too. Absolutely no schools of bait. I managed to jig up half a dozen grunts on my sabiki which I immediately put out on two rods for live bait. :fish: The wind was blowing anything not set out with a heavy sinker towards the beach (west). The grunts were swimming against the wind, keeping even with the tee, at least. I looked for any cudas or snookies hidin' in the shadows, but.......Nada, dude. Not even a houndie to chase the cut strip on my bobber. Sad. :nopity: But.....it was great just to be out of the house and away from daytime television. Hey, maybe tomorrow.....but not at Pompano. :reeling: Tight lines, my brothers of the wooden plank!! :toast:

DFP was closed yesterday, so I mosied on down the coast to fish Pompano.... :driving:

PLENTY of microdines in the surf to sabiki. :happyfisherman:

Ended up w 2 cero's in the cooler after a couple hours of bottom fishing and having a couple :toast: . A great way to spend an afternoon. Met a couple of the regulars out there, good bunch of guys - Turns out one is from Staten Island too...wow, almost never hear that. :dude:

The Cer's were the perfect size for ceviche - havent made that in a while and it came out pretty darn good :)

Its' the closest peir to me, it's free and there is always a lot of parking. I was trying for snapper, but I would have been happy with a few grunts. I guess this is a case when I got what you paid for. :)

Last night was the slowest I have ever had there (not even a nibble). I don't think anyone was catching.

Are the other piers on Broward County a lot better? I have fished the Dierfield pier before, but never tried Anglins or Dania.

Dania always has bait and snook in the day, people hauling in a good amount of macks is usually pretty common, and it isn't uncommon to see muttons and grovers coming up. I really like Pompano Pier, there is so much room in the front in comparison to dania, but it seems like there is no fish there.

Surge, I fished Pompano last week Monday from 8-12pm and caught a nice bluefish, and there was lots of bait. The people next to me caught a huge cuda also. I just fish there with pilchards, its the best bait in my opinion. I went again on thursday evening and used pilchards again, I forgot to set the drag on my rod and whatever bit the pilchard almost dragged the pole down with it, I ran and grabbed it, but I didn't have a good leader on my line and it snapped, still upset about it. But you should try with live pilchard, I usualy use #0/4 hooks and out of my rods at least 2 are free lining. Hope this helps.
