Me & TarponKing went out to juno and saw a good size bait ball of blue runner swim through and hook a couple then saw some cudas and a decent amount of rays even go caught on one...them things are strong...

sporadic in the am. wait about 2 weeks they will be thick .10 lbers. blues that is.

Awesome. What is the bait of choice? Ive caught em on x-raps in white and cut mullet free lined and silver spoons. Caught a nice one in the surf next to the pier. Any other suggestions?

Im fairly new to the saltwater artis. Ive got zara spooks in a couple sizes that I dont fish very often because all I know to do is "walk the dog". The action I get out of it isnt pefect and I attribute part of that to the way I rig them. Typically its a 25-30lb mono leader spliced to braid. Is the weighted spook a specific lure or is it a method of rigging? Is there a good thread on here or a website that shows various ways to fish things like x-raps, zara spooks etc?

many people work their zara spooks SUPER FAST. To the point where they dont even let them walk side to side. Mostly just like they are lightly jumping on top of the water. This gets an aggressive fish to strike. In calmer waters, side to side action may be better.

I USED TO TAKE MY KNIFE AND "DRILL" HOLES WHERE THE EYES WERE.

DAMN CAPSLOCK.

Then i would fill up the spook with water for a longer cast and better action with a fast retrieve,

Thanks for all the cool info. Niner, when are we gonna go fishing man? Maybe I will give the hole trick a try because, today the wind was vicious at the pier!!!

Went out there about 5:45 today looking for some bluefish for bait. As soon as I got there the pomps were coming over the rail. Atleast 4-5 came up within 20 minutes and atleast 5 more came over the rail during my hour and a half there. Pompano Jigs, some with feathery things and some without, tipped with shrimp. I was unprepared as usual and had no pomp jigs.

Then came the croakers. A huge school was hanging out maybe 50 yards from the beach. Simple rig with some shrimp and a hook worked like a charm. Once again, unprepared. I unfortunately had no shrimp.

So after watching all this and getting no action on my gotcha, xrap, spoon, and jigs a solitary bluefish comes over and I figure, where there is one, there is more. Nope! Then I see two nice cobes go by and I throw my jig right in front of em. One circles back, looks, and keeps right on moving.

At this point I am ready to go and coincidentally, the pier is closing. So I wrap up my chat with my buddy Peanut and head on over to my lil bridge to try and get some ladyfish and blues for shark bait. I get there and meet a nice older man, Jonny Coonts, who gives me a quick run down of his life to date, including the fact that he won the Lake Worth Shark tourney years ago. He said the prize was a 4/0 and a rod. He gives me more fishing testimonial and he was just so friendly, you wanted to talk to him.

Any how, I have my yellow and red flair hawk style jig tied on already from the pier, so I decide to tip it with a strip of frozen finger mullet. The tied was a strong incoming so I toss the jig out there and let it sink down with the current. Jig it slowly up and down letting it slide with the current, like you would on a channel in the back country. First cast gets within a few feet of the bridge I get hit so I set it and crank up the remaining 15ft of line. Its dark so all I saw was a quick white belly and then the fish fell off. This has been my experience with ladyfish, especially at this bridge. Jonny cant believe that he had been there for so long with nothing and then I come along and first cast almost land something. (Thanks Boatlessfishing!)

So I toss it back out there...same exact procedure. Again, within 5ft of the bridge I start to feel the tugs again only this time I figure I should let her have it for a while before I set it. As soon as I feel it get taught, I crank down and set it. No epic battle or anything to get it out of the water, but now I cant get it over the rail because whatever it is, is too heavy to flip with the rod I was using. Jonny immediately came to my rescue, jumping the rail down to the sea wall to help me get it onto the ledge. Jonny raises it up and yells, MAN ITS A FREAKING TROUT!!! I had never caught any sizeable one so I was so psyched.

I had remembered someone telling me that there was a season on em so I ran as quickly as I could to my trunk to get the regs book that follows me around. 21", definately a keeper so I went on my way.

fat trout! Trout aren't SUPER common up in palm beach, so you have accomplished something good here Mikey!

By the way, Im 4 weeks away from graduating college...I'll be up in gardens real soon...so then we can find some snook.

I know what your talking about. I talk to a lot of the local pier and bridge rats and most of them have real sporadic encounters with the trouters. One of the guys I spoke with yesterday said he pulled a 9lber out of the same place I got this one.
Graduate already so we can catch some fish man!!!

went to Juno pier & luckily they often early @ 4:30 am coz there is easter mass held at the pier, no way to go to the T since it is occupied , anyway, there's a bunch of pompano in the morning , there is blues too but on & off. yours truly manage to catch 3 pomp & 4 blues & one mack . I left 2:15 p.m & blues are still biting...

I fished juno monday and tuesday this week... the pompano bite was good real early...and so were the mackeral...
crappie jigs were the norm for the macks, and goofy jigs for the pomps... there was no bait holding at the pier... one nice school of greenies came through while I was there... which hung around shortly...

I fished calicos both days on the North side of the T.... and nothing

did hear of one guy lose a #30+ king to the pilings after wearing it down on monday... it was on a spook I believe...

It's only a few bucks to fish Juno right? Like others you can't cast net from the pier, correct? Any areas that would be better for Snapper? Bout 99% sure i'll be up there friday morning after I drop off my son.

$3 to fish... no castnetting from the pier...

no snapper off the pier now... maybe the inlet, but I know they're doing some work, i think the jetty is closed...

anglin's has snapper
