Anglins Pier Fishing Reports 2007

one more cast--It was good to meet you as well. I had another fine day of fishing yesterday. I didn't get any Snook, but I did manage to catch a real nice, big Jack and just about every species of fish that lives out on those reefs near the pier. LOL I caught so many different kinds I'm not even gonna bother to post the photos of em all. I had to buy another book to identify all the fish I saw caught out there yesterday.

$5 to park in Pier lot and $7 fishing

I have been informed that there is a parking lot that can be used it is next to Ocean Mist Pub on west side which is just west of the light "A1A" white picket fence you can use but must inform pier attendant of type of car and Tag number, there may be a charge of a $1 depending on the Day but it is an alternative to help with cost, the owners have arranged to use this lot to help with this issue.

SnookMook there is a Large variaty caught from Anglins that is one of the reasons I like it, besides the fact I grew up on it.

BF--I grew up down here and used to fish Pompano and Anglins Pier years ago. I moved to Gainesville in the early 80s to go to UF and moved to Lakeland/Tampa area in 1989.

I have lots of good memories of fishing on the piers and hope to get down here more often to fish.

I'll probably head back out to the pier again tomorrow (Friday) morning.

RooferDave just called, Friday Morning Started slow then Macks would come in and out mainly hitting Sand Perch, but they did get them on Strips also and Gotcha's, Muttons came in and they where Shorts so check the measurement on the Muttons they came in on the sand.

A Fat Cobia was caught even thogh it was Fat Fat it still was short by 3 inches, there also was a 9ft Hammerhead cruizing the pier.

He hook a couple of fish he could not stop and one of the macks he caught was a nice one and will have some pictures later when I see him.

he got home at 3pm and that is late so that says it was a fun day fishing, I new I should have gone by, Darn it I missed some good fishing.

I will presume that also they caught Runners and Jacks

Need help with a fish ID. I caught this off Anglins Pier the other day.

Someone thought it was a Wrasse, I thought it was a Parrotfish and so did someone else out on the Pier.

Anybody know for sure?

I got out for a little while from about 9am till 12:30pm or so. I met Cuban Express as well and saw Tom again. I only caught a few small bottom bait thieves. It was windy and rough as hell. I wish the weather had been better for the tourney.

Oh well, that's the way it goes sometimes.

Forgot to post last report from Dec 5, but thanks to OCEANORANGE for gettin' the pic of the nice mac my buddy caught. It was good to meet you and see the t-shirt design. Great job man, keep it going. Only thing I wanted to add to Ocean's report was that even though the bait fish are slow, I've been having sporadic luck catching the little grunts about 30' before the T. They have turned out to be some pretty good bait when nothing else is around. That's what my buddy caught the mac you posted the picture of with. They aren't there all the time but I check it out every little while and it's hit or miss, sometimes they are there and sometimes they aren't.

Really want to thank Tom and all other members that I've met out there. Everyone is really, really, cool, (Except for some guy that was hatin' on my buddy when he caught the grouper tom put on the front page.)

made it out this morning 6:45am, had gold and green gotcha attached to 30# flouro cut on second cast, got back lined up 15 minutes later contractor told me pier was closing for the day

!? Was committed to taking the morning off to fish so made the ride down to Dania only to land a small leather jack, but did see about 1/2 a dozen pomps caught in about an hour just beyond the sand bar...good sign! I have not seen that many pomps the entire fall run.

I was out there at 04:30am on tuesday morning with the pier all too myself

.I was king of the pier for a couple of hours

The wind was blowing a lot more closer to the shore that on the T but the water was still rough. I didn't get a single bite on my heavy rod all the bites came on my lite rod. A lot of bait stealing grunts. I did manage to hook about 3 lanes, a 12" mutton and two 11" triggerfish. Well at least I got some grunts

The mutton and the trigger fish were all caught between 7am and 7:30am on silversides. And as 'one more cast' said, we all had to leave the pier due to construction work but I got to fish and I got my money back

Wed 12/14 Fishing Report

Arrived at Anglin's about 4:00 pm with some nice live shrimp, and some fresh frozen ballyhoos & mack belly strips. Good color to the water,

Put a shrimp out on a float, and drat's, there's no current, just wind. Oh well. Just east of the middle shack.

Put out a chum bag, hoping for something to begin. Would not mind getting some more fresh ballyhoo for the freezer.

Toss out a ballyhoo plug, about 3-4 inches, tail off, on a standard bottom rig with one ounce and 3 foot leader.

I got a couple new toys for fishing. Electronic "Bite Alarms". One model attaches to the rod, and when the line is "hit", gives an audible beep. The other model has lights, bells, and whistles. The rod is rested on the alarm cradle, and the line on the roller. It cradles the rod and line. The slightest movement on the line causes a loud beeping and flashing lights. Great for a bottom rod, and loud enough to wake a sleeping angler. Lot's of potential if it were'nt so expensive.

Start fishing with a jig head and live shrimp. Nothing is happening. The chum ain't doing much either.

Than some small runners appear. Not many, but they provide some bait for others.

Beep Beep, Flash Flash, the bite alarms indicates action on my bottom rod, before the clicker goes off. And I'm 5-10 yards away from that stick. Sure enough, it's a mutton, and the beginning of what I hope will be a Mutton Fest. Unfortunately, I had to release it back into the wild, instead of the oven, as it failed to make the minimum size I will keep.

By some coincidence, that happens to be the same exact size as Florida Fish regulations.

Rebait and recast with another hoo plug.

Fishing the south side, casting is difficult because of the way the overhead lights are strung. Manage decent distance in a side arm fashion, but only because the pier had few anglers. If crowded, casting on the south side for distance could be a chore, as well as setting up on a decent fish. A rod tip may find itself in the light strings. Definitely not a comfortable situation, and one I hope they soon remedy.

Tossing a nice live shrimp on a bare jig, hook another mutton. Again, less than my personal minimum size. Incidentally, both fish would have made nice entree's in the good 'ole days.

OK, I'm bored. Than "Beep beep flash flash", and the bottom rod alarm indicates some action. A bigger fish from the feel of it, until I get rocked. I lose it, roughed the 12 lb test line above the swivel, and it broke off. Dang, that alarm is cool and works too. Was using my Ambassador 5000 with 12 lb line & 6 foot beastmaster stick.

Meanwhile, a little further out, I see the almost perfect woman. She's catching a few small grunts and such, and asked what kind of fish, edible, etc questions. She sure is pretty.

"What makes her the almost perfect woman?" you're probably thinking.

She's female and very attractive. Now, at my age, those two qualities are usually enough, but she has more going for her!

But she is cutting her own bait (squid), and baiting her own hooks . And she is removing the fish she catches herself, and releasing them. And she's nicely dressed in tight enough jeans, nice top, and wearing heels. She even baited her husband's hook. Imagine that.

So now you're thinking, "Ah, she's almost perfect because she's married", but you'd be wrong. She is almost perfect because, while chatting with her, I found out she does not own a boat.

Not much seemed to be happening. The chum did not attract. Did see some moonfish, 10 inch runners, 1 hound, and grunts caught.

My big live shrimp on a float on my snook stick, with 5 foot leader, straight up and down, lasted over an hour unmolested. Couple of times. Near the chum bag, between the pilings, hoping for a cruising snook or something.

Two muttons landed. Three break offs. Lost two jigs, one bottom rig. Was fishing the jig & shrimp on 8 lb, no leader.

Saw Roofer Dave & Sharkboy.

That's my report, and I'm sticking to it.

Thanks for the report. Good read. Yea, those temporary, overhead lights are a pain in the azz. Hard to get a good cast out. I hope they fix that soon for all you locals. I'll be back down mid January. I certainly hope it is fixed by then.

Think I may have developed a slight tear in my rotator cuff from side arming my xrap on the baitcaster last week under the temp lights.....wife's trying to put me on injured reserve

You guys think this heavy rain will impact fishing at Anglins this weekend, I'm sure there was a lot of fresh water run off today?

Yes.

Runoff will be either heavy or finished depending on the rain and pump schedule today. I am watching the website to see what is happening too.

Other hand, snapper bite is good after a storm and there is a weak front moving into the area sat afternoon. A pocket of low pressure ahead of it is what is driving this rain. Sat AM could be good...Toss up.

Worse at Pompano of DFP, but really depends on the currents direction....
Sometimes there can be. ALL the piers here are subjected to the Broward Water Control pumping activity to some extent.

I caught two nice Macks on thursday and a few big Crevalles early Morning.

Today Saturday Morning alot of Blue Runners, Croakers. I saw two undersize muttons come up just before sun up and CubanExpress beat up a 12 1/2 lb AJ 28.5 inches "Release" he got it on a live Blue runner and on 20lb test, I left at about 8:30am the water looked good and there was Ballyhoo around also in the morning.

Weather changes sure do help, as do both of your skill levels in taking advantage of them at the right time.

Great Macs and AJ - No doubt about the Greater Lesser distinction at that size !! and at 28.5 legal either way should you have decided to eat him instead of release.

Awesome fishing, Nice macks Tommy and nice aj CubanExpress, hurting arms I suppose. I gotto go back out there, just have to do it.
