You see things on a different level than I do. You see a 2 lb ytail or porgy as dinner I see it as bait for a 50 lb black grouper.

Yes everytime... I have no qualms about swimming a 3 lb yellowtail for a 54 lb black grouper like I did last year or a 47 lb kingfish either. Big fish eat big baits fair trade out in my book. You saw that last trip on the Gulfstream send a 12 - 24 inch tail to the bottom for a 20 lb plus black grouper well worth it in the end if it pays off. I have caught 18 lb muttons on 24 inch tails as well. Watched a captain send a 27 in yellowtail to the bottom while the rest of us were fishing for an hour or more with 12 -14 inch tails when he told us big blacks lived here. As soon as his big bait hit the bottom 58 lb black grouper eats it. I have been sold on big baits ever since then. I mean do you want to walk to the drive through to get one French fry or a large order?

Now that makes sense. I think you just may have a potential convert on your hands

. Then again, you're not saying to use ALL the ytails that I catch, just one of them, so the trade off gets even better. Worst case, you lose 1 yellow tail, but have a few others to go home with, and best case you get to keep some ytails + a nice fat grouper.. Me likes. Me likes a lot.

I just had to reply to this. This reminds of a time a former co-worker of mine told me that one of the best baits for Jewfish was Lobster

I believe it, one of the last ones I caught in the Keys puked up a lobster when I was unhooking it. But why waste a lobster on a fish you can't keep? Now cubera snapper on the other hand...
