Fished this morning from 6:30 to 10:00. Saw about a half dozen macks caught. That was it. Other wise it was very, very quiet. There was some bally's small cigar minnows and runners around.
Maybe they started biting after we left. Water was getting very clear.
Good luck to all.

Re: Deerfield Pier Fishing Reports 2009 "ONLY REPORTS"
Fished from 6:30am-1:15pm
Went 1/3 on Macks.... The one I managed to get ended up being a good 18 inches. A school of about 100-200 jacks came through but they wouldn't eat.....
Also, two bonitas were caught and a handful of macks. I also managed to catch one of the biggest blue runners that I've caught in a long time. The thing was pushing a good 3-4lbs!!
Looks like the bite was starting to pick up after I left.....

Fished dfp from 7:30 am to 10 am. Caught nothing. Saw two houndfish come up. There were ballyhoo around. There was also a small school of baitfish, likely gogs, but could not identify as they were hugging the bottom. Saw some snook cruising around the hut.

Re: Deerfield Pier Fishing Reports 2009 "ONLY REPORTS"
I may hit up the pier on Monday morning.
As far as Trolley rigs go, if you limit yourself and do them RIGHT then you won't have a problem. I will never have more than ONE Trolley out at a time; it's just too much to watch after. I also use a heavy pyramid sinker that doesn't roll around on the sandy bottom, and my line is always kept tight.
Trolleys become a problem when these guys manage to have like 4 rods out each (with maybe ONE of them actually baited might I add) and they let their lines go slack, and people cast over them. Cast straight, use the right weight and shape sinker, and keep your line tight, and you won't have a problem.
I usually fish bottom anyway, but the Trolley thing can be fun and productive if done properly.

Re: Deerfield Pier Fishing Reports 2009 "ONLY REPORTS"
I was not there to see it - but saw pics of some very good sized Pompano caught here yesterday in the clear water - all on pink/ yellow swivel jigs....
I hear there were some pier regs here that saw this - I would love to get some confirmation on this just for personal edification. The where and how of this on the pier is A-Typical. Not calling anyone out, but the where on the pier and clear water was odd to hear about pomps being caught in is all.

Re: Deerfield Pier Fishing Reports 2009 "ONLY REPORTS"
Fished this morning from 6:30 to 9:30. There were about 5 other guys also trying for pomps. Did not see a single fish caught. I did have a really nice fish on a Doc goffy for about 5 seconds but ended up losing it, not sure if it was a pomp or not (broken line). A guy next to me fishing shrimp on a pomp rig did have a huge fish on for a minute or two but lost the fish when it went screaming under the pier.
Didnt see anything else being caught. Did hear that a couple macks were caught at the tee.
Good luck to all.

Re: Deerfield Pier Fishing Reports 2009 "ONLY REPORTS"
well anyway, i was at the pier wednesday and there were a few macks around in the mornin and some pomps in the surf. around mid day meand my friend logan were looking off the north side and he spots a manta ray. we both go get jigs and right when we get back to the rail 2 big cobes come out from under the ray. one was about 30lbs and the other was every bit of 50lbs. well i make a cast and neither fish sees it. befor a make another cast logan casts and hooks the smaller fish momentarily before it spits his jigging spoon. i make another cast and the 50 lber eats it but was swimming right at the pier and when i tried to det the hook he opened his mouth and the jig came right out. the same thing happened with the smaller one. by this time the ray had swam in almost straight up and down off the north side and got tangled in a line. it started to swim to the beach all wrapped up in bobbys line. bobby had someone reel his rod in and it turned the ray back twords the t. me logan and bobby made several perfect presentations to the fish but they just didnt want to eat antmore. i had my right hand girl alexa bringin me dead hoos which i tipped the jig with and they still wouldnt eat. bobby had a whole squid on his jig and they didnt want that either. eventually bobby dropped his jig on the rays back and it spooked off with the cobes right behind
. that was it for wednesday. i went back friday and got one mack all day. my friend logan got 2 nice like 8-10lb kings and my other friend cody also got a 6lber. there was also a short cobe lost straight up and down in the morning and a keeper landed by zuki/marco in the afternoon.

Some bigger than average Kings hit the deck between last night and now. By Bigger than average, I mean all like 20# or so.
Some Macs also hit today.
By the sound of ity, there has been a night and early AM king bite these last few days.
Water looked good, not great but good. Ballyhoo, some gogs were about. Time to start Driving to work W the rods again

Go With him and just start by walkin the pier a few times looking in the buckets - his natural curiosity will get him.
Live Shrimp and live sardines also will keep him busy while you get his rod setup. Just keep it simple - Reef fish, runners on squid - Bottom Fish W live or frozen shrimp etc....Take him when you KNOW the bite will be decent. He wont care if it is a Chub or pompano- so long as the line gets a yank.
Later in life it will give you a forum to talk to him about really iomportant stuff in between bites.
I make it a point to bring my lil ones out for the fall beluefish blitz, Runner days in the summer and the spring run of pomps( first time this year ) ....Other than that, just when I can. Plan to NOT fish for the first few times the 2 of you go - It will allow you time to spend W him, getting his lil mind in to it and you will be less frustrated trying to do too much while chasin him all over.
Personally I like DFP for kids due to the close spacing of the rails ( It is like impossible for them to go over ) Just keep him off the T until he is a lil older / iser/ more aware of what he is doin - Sometimes the lead really sings out there, by folks that are NOT watching out - Specially on weekend besides - the depth and current make it pretty hard to fish small without tangling everyone up.

Good Winds started about 6:30-7 AM from the dead east - Current still S bound at incoming though
Looked by the swell that the waves and current were fighting each other.
Some nice color starting, but still clear as of 8:45.
Ballyhoo and Cigs were about - Good big bait size runners chasing gotcha's.
Some Bonnies landed in the AM.
Cookin 0/3 on my chances this AM.
W 2 cutoffs above one above the wire, one tailwhipped the mainline. One one i just flat out kooked it before he ate the entire bait...

Round II Report.
Cookin kooks his first cast ( Actually loadedthe rod too much and snapped the line "Zingin 8's off the Teeeee" Hey where has that kid been anyway?
So, - a day ending backlash to the Torium..oh well - needed to respool anyway.
Broke out the backup - Penn 750 on a 9' Ewguly Stik....NADA...W Trollied Cigs - Nada W Bottom fished Cigs - Was not meant for me to catch anything Big toiday, though all around me it was kinda steady.
But thankk god for me - there were still plenty of roving macs for the gotcha
Kept 4 for a nice weekend Ceviche.
Found out what a gotcha tyo the toe feels like - not fun, but not really bad either once the mac attached stipped twitching...
Kings ( bigger than average - all 15 and up that I saw - couple really nice ones) some Shark run ffs, Macs, undersize mutton, plenty of runners favailable or the kiddies or to swim
NE winds bring good times IMHO
Should be a Zoo this weekend at that T.
Tight lines

I wondered how the day would shake out -Nice report. Did the water stir up any or did it stay pretty clear all day?
I figured things might pick up when the current started to run. The sunrise bite was a real bust...

Nice Smoker.
The Judge asked the prostitute, "At what point did you realize you were raped?"
The prostitute replied (wiping away tears), "When the check bounced."
