Baitrunner 6500 Anti-Reverse Switch?

Post by Morpheus2 »

The switch underneath the reel is broke and now the bail goes forward and backward.

I am assuming this is called the anti reverse switch.

Since this has happened there is a slight sticking point(hesitation) when I am reeling in.

Is this an easy fix?

Any help would be appreciated.

I am mechanically inclined, but since I have never taken one apart, I didn't want to crack the reel open without asking the experts. :thumleft:

The bait runners are crap. Had one for less than a year and the anti reverse broke once and the bait runner switch 2 or 3 times. I wouldn't suggest trying to fix it unless you have the right tools and experience fixing reels.

I had a newer baitrunner that stripped the gears on a tiny mangrove. after waiting 6 months for repair they just gave me a brand new one

We used to use them on our boat years ago. It was a known issue that the ant-reverse would break on every one.

Not sure if this one is the older or the newer.

My 4500 has been a TANK and I love it.

The older ones are Way better than the newer models. There is a new model tht was released recently but I suspect it's crap also. I don't think it's possible to get a reliable sinning reel for under $250. I had high hopes for the spinfisher v but that turned out to be junk too.

I read somewhere the penn torque is a nice medium between spinning and conventional power

I'll admit it does have impressive specs. I wonder if it can stand up to the abuse on a yak. If I ever go back to spinning reels this might be worth a try.

the spheros is a monster....

But like anything else... take the time to clean them an service them and they will last
you a while... :toast:
Those are the old models that everyone agrees are tanks. I had a guy explain to me for a half hour why those models are bad ass and what they changed that made the new ones suck. Too bad I don't remember the specifics. He lost me when he starting drawing pics of the gears on a napkin.

They are probably trying to pull the same thing Penn did in the 90s. They lost loyal customers for life.
