Look what i stole!!!

Post by LINESIDER »

took a trip to little flea market we have down south here, came across a newell reel!!!! i know my freekin jaw dropped. didn't want to show my emotions .. i pick up couple other reels first ask couple dumb questions, then as i keep seeing the newell its a P series. cant wait any more i grab the reel. P322-F bad ass.looks new. guy says 150$ not a bad deal. i see them for 200 online. so we do the dance. i say 50$ he almost snatches it from my hands..lol so i say how about a trade? i had a baitcasting newport penn rod in car. ran to car to get rod ,end up giving him 70$ and rod.. think i got a steal of a deal... he was happy,im super happy.. now i cant wait to build a rod for it.. the freespool om these reels are amazing..
if anyone else wants to sell there newells let me know

Newells were and still are to a degree a West Coast long range staple reel.

half way there. trying to add an upgrade drag kit.. seems to be this model is super rare, only in production 1 year, you grease your drags also? or run them dry?what about the bearings? u feel them slow down the casting when greased?

Did you put in the carbon fiber? Also, less grease on the drag will increase it a bit, but IMHO, 10lbs is pretty good for that type reel.

Btw, you need to check out Alan Tani's site, they live for this kind of stuff over there. http://alantani.com

Alan Tani thats the name!!!! dang been thinking of that guy, just couldn't remember the name .. thanks..
i swapped to ht 100s added 1 6-60 ht100 above the stack and added a tension spring washer above that.. still get more drag power from a jigmaster

Line,

PM Bryan Young (Alan Site) & buy his 5 stack vs the newell 3 stack. This will give you about 24# which is fine for this reel. If you need some cal grease and super duper TSI oil i can bring these to the BBQ.

think i figured it out.was missing belville washer under star drag. so the wheel would bottom out before all pressure was applied to drags..
