Headed out to the beach at around 12:30 with JordanConnorSharp (Jordan) and C-money (Connor) to try out luck at some shark fishing. The weather wasn't looking good and when we got to the beach it was terrible. Huge seas, im talking 4-6 footers, dark clouds and realllyyyyy windy. Had 2 baits in the water at around 1:30-2:00. Connor had a whole 10 lb tuna about 250 yards out when the line on his 12/0 starts going out kind of slow,IMO i didnt think he had one, then i see him start full on running down the beach (hookset) with no luck. As we're talking we hear ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ and my new avet 50w (which i used for the first time today) started going off. Sure was a sweet song that reel was singin :) Did the hookset and fish on! after about 5-10 minutes finally brought it in with the result of a decent blacktip (or a spinner shark we're really not sure). This thing fought like crazy on the line, and even out of the water, mounted it and got the hook out after it bit down on the dehooker and bent them a little bit, safe release and the shark was fine. We yak the baits out again and I got no luck the rest of the day, not even a hit. Using tuna chunks 100 yards off.

We were just relaxin when connors 12/0 goes off like ive never heard it go off before, but spit the hook. The whole 10 lb tuna was chomped in half. Not sure what it was, maybe a hammer or a frisky blacktip. Sure was interesting to see it, but even on a double hook rig he still missed it, ahh well what can we do. We yaked the baits out again but neither of us got any action. All in all a fun day, and really glad i got to test out the new reel.

Id like to make a special shout out to everyone who helped me with this reel.
if you posted...http://boatlessfishing.com/forum/viewto ... 1...thanks so much.

p.s. Raul (permitchaser) the rod worked great man. :reeling:

Haha dude, nice job guys! Sucks about the missed hit...oh well, you'll get him next time. Keep at it and you'll whack a hammer or bull soon enough. ;)

But I've been telling Jordan, you guys need to fish at night if you want to up your chances at a big fish! Fish until like 11 or midnight at least!!!!!

it was so sketchy. i would almost get the wind knocked out of me from hitting the wave straight on. Jordan was on shore watching the reels and he said that at some points he was scared we had tipped cause he didnt see us out there, which really means we just went over like a 6foot+ wave.

Good job. Make sure you bring some freshwater with you so you can rinse your reel from sand. From fighting the fish or line dragging the beach it will get on your reel. Reel looks great.

thanks, i always make sure i do. and i was just wondering if i should get my reel serviced and get everything packed with grease (drag washers, berrings, screws, etc) by a professional because of the problems salt and sand might cause. good idea, bad idea?

make sure you rinse it well...and every once and a while use a can of compressed air to clean the sand out from the nooks and crannies...i use silicone protectant for Aluminum that i use for the boat to keep oxidation down. only have little oxidation on the laser cut logo on frame.

I would wait until you feel the smoothness is gone and feel sand in it. Just keep rinsing it with freshwater when you are fishing. When you get home wind off the top shot to a yo yo and examine the line. If the line is in excellent condition then cut the line off and store it on the yo yo. Make sure to hose down the line on the yo yo too. Clean the reel and rod and wipe down.
