Looking for help with gear!

I have the spot, I have the fish, I have the bait, but I don't know what I should use?

I have seen you guys with the 13/0's and the big spinning rods. I am wondering what is the best of the best that can be used for shark fishing off the beach. I have shark fished in New Jersey for many years tagging makos and blue's with my dad and I am looking to get into beach shark fishing. Can you guys assist me with telling me the kind of gear I should get?

I have a yak, a transport for baits, and I'm talking like medium gear, money doesn't matter, best of the best.

- Or if you want a monster Alutecnos, then get an 80/130 Wide ($942.00)
- 14/0 Penn Senator ($349.99)

- 9/0 Duel Two Speed ($1499.00) "Probably one of the best reels on the market. "

Rod Choices:

- Get a custom rod from either Blackfin rods, JR Custom Rods, or any other store that builds rods.
- Fit the rod to the reel and line you are using, if your going with a monster reel, then I would get an 80-130lb rated blank, around 7-8ft with either Aftco or Winthrop rollers. If your going with one step below that, then use a 50-80lb or 50-100lb rated blank around 7-8ft with either Aftco or Winthrop rollers.

You won't be able to cast with these set-ups, so you'll need a kayak, zodiac, or jetski to take your baits out. I would go with a kayak, Ocean frenzy's are good kayaks.





I personally own these set-ups and there are top of the line:

13ft Breakaway HDX with a Fin-Nor OFs9500 spooled with 65lb PowerPro:




50/80 Alutecnos Albacore Single Speed spooled with 150yds of 50lb dacron on the bottom of the spool, 1000yds of 65lb PowerPro, 500yds of 100lb PowerPro, and then 30yds of 250lb PowerPro. The rod I'm putting it on is currently being built, its a Blackfin Rod "Team Oldschool Blank" 7'6 80-130lb, with 130lb Winthrop Rollers on it.

I would rather go with an Alutecnos, they are much lighter and will last much longer. They are made out of 1082 Aluminum, which is the same aluminum they make ferrari engines out of. They are the lightest lever drag reel on the market that i've seen.

I actually have been looking for a picture of that rod that was raffled at the Chaos store from Boatless. I can't seem to find it. It was like a "AMAZING" rod or something like that, I think it was raffled at the Opening Party or a Chaos Sale.

If your considering buying the Alutecnos 80/130W, then I would pm sharkman42 "Mike" and have him build you a rod using a team oldschool blank, it will be perfect for that reel.

The internationals work just fine as long as you keep the maintenance up on them. If you already have them there is no need to but new equipment. The 30's work fine but you should think of braid on them. Especially in the winter time the 30's are perfect, light and powerful.

Good stuff,..... let's not forget (LOL $$$) VS 300 (spooled w/65#PP) and "ESPECIALLY" the Penn SS 9500.

VS300 doesn't have a good retrieve (27.5in), while the VS275 has a 40in retrieve. The VS300 is still an aamazing reel!

Gosh!.....i guess my trustie penn 706's are obsolute, slow and steady wins the race in my book.it holds as much line as a 8500ss penn ive had so many HIGH DOLLAR REELS in my hands to fixin the last 10 years its not funny....the metals not there, metals not suposed to be lite as a feather like all thes adds they force on us on T.V and in magizines to us consumers. metal should be heavy like i like my music...lol.....but seriuosly, find a old 706 bailless wonder will never break on you. it will do the job just find . i have 6 of them that ive never do anything to since i got them except pack them with grease when i got them. sand gets in the rotor somethimes at the beach just dunk it , its not going to hurt the 2 b.b in it if it was packed with grease. when the market took off in the dirrection it is now in the very high dollar range....i bought these things next to nothing .....glad i did.....my 2 cents..

p,s josh if your read this ....we have RED TIDE on our beach....went out today and my eyes burnned really bad , i guess it creeped down fron the north ....its heading your way ....south....mike
