help in the daytona/ormond beach area

ive recently made the transition from fishing off a boat to fishing from the beach (started up grad school & couldnt afford the luxuries of a boat) & have been really been scrathing my head at the whole shark fishing thing. i have tons of fishing knowledge offshore but am getting stuck with the beach. ive been kayaking out whole mullet on a 50W and have still not gotten a hit yet. ive been as far out as 100yds past the second break and as close in as the 1st trough. can anyone give me a few pointers, ideal locations etc so that i can start to really embrace this lifestyle? any and all advice would be greatly appreciated!! Try using bigger bait like Jacks, Bonito, and Cudas. Most people who yak their bait paddle out as close to the reef as possible.

thanks for the help. as far as yakin' the baits out to the reef its my understanding that it is way way off the coast & not readily accessible. ive been pondering the NSB/Ponce Inlet location but have been told sharkin' off the beach is illegal down that way-true? also, what is the best way to target the rays as bait? in the past they have always been a by-catch of mine but have heard they do make great shark bait & would be interested in giving it a go. again, thanks for the info

Usually when you bottom fish the silly ray will eat them. Any nasty bait will work. If one spot do not work you need to move and scout difference areas. You will find them.

Squid is a good ray bait anywhere, throw a bunch out and your in buisness. I castnetted about 20 rays last year. If you see them shallow, literally running up the beach then give that a shot. I learned quickly that I couldn't catch one in more than two inches of water, two inches or less and I would net one everytime. Prepare to get a hole or two in that castnet.

im probably going to head up to ormond/high bridge area this friday night- the sandbars seem to be pretty distinct creating quite a few holes and deep troughs. not to mention very little beach traffic & lots of privacy. anyone had much success there? any other tips to add? would really like to get the monkey off my beach-bound back this weekend hahaha

like i said the whole beach thing is new to me. been lucky to be offshore pretty much my whole life & have always had some degree of success- seems like my offshore game fishing knowldge & techniques arent translating too well to surf fishing. either way, i didnt get good at those without MANY trial & errors & this time will be no different. hope to reporting success in the near-by future.

try some fresh bait if you can bluefish jack evan whiting are damn good shark bait put 2 on one hook still alive and kicking and that will bring the toothers in
