Finally found success!

This past weekend, I was finally able to work the kinks out and bring a 5' spinner to shore. I have been sharking from the beach for a couple of years now, and finally think I have perfected my rig. Since I am only able to make it down from Alabama a couple of times a year, it took a while to discover unforseen issues and to adapt. This past Saturday night, I was getting hit every 15-20 minutes from about 2030-0130. Many were obviously larger fish than the one landed. It is definitely one of the more active nights I have had. The pics turned out crappy due to an iPhone with no flash, a hand crank cheapo flashlight, and trying to get her back in the water. She gave several awesome jumps and long hard runs. I specifically wanted a spinning outfit for sharks from the beach and am quite pleased with the rig so far. I am using a Fin-Nor OFS9500 loaded with 700ish yards of 80lb Power Pro on a Super Seeker SS 6470-7' S. I am running 18 inches of 200lb single strand, to a barrel swivel, to 6 feet of 200lb mono for abrasion. My weight slides on the mono so it can stay close to the bait for casting distance. The Allbright knot connecting the mono to the braid casts through the guides easily. I would have landed many more fish had I switched to a mono leader sooner. The braid is tough until you put it under stress and run shark skin over it. This rig can reach out there with some pretty good baits. I can't wait to get back down.

Congrats on your success. If you are connecting braid to mono try a uni to uni knot. On the braid tied a bimini twist to form a double line. You can do a triple surgeon knot or a spider hitch if you dont like dont like doing bimini twist. Use the double line and it your uni to uni. This knot works great and it very small and will pass thru the guide easier than an albright. On my albright knots I always tie a finishing knot with my braid. Great job again.
