Ft. Clinch SP 7/16

Spent most of a a cloudy day at Fort Clinch State Park today, fishing from the beach. Arrived around 10am, fished off and on (mostly on) until about 5:00, going from a super-high tide to low (and then some). First year fishing in the surf, but managed to bring in 4 keeper whiting between myself (3) and my wife (1). Also hauled in a 2 ft bonnet-head (my first shark!), and my wife reeled in a baby Pomp. Sent the shark and pomp merrily on their way after grabbing some 'first' pics. Today was definitely a blast - we have got the surf fishing bug for sure.

Fort Clinch State Park is on the north end of Amelia Island.

You can't drive on the beach, but since our family usually goes for fishing AND beach time, its nice that they have showers and changing rooms just off the dunes on the walk back to you vehicle. An excellent family beach - a few people fishing, but mostly a mixture of families with kids and older couples. We have yet to try it, but they have a fishing pier just off the inlet for the Amelia River as well.

thanks for the info, i just haven't heard of that place but figured it was not south.

Fort Clinch can yield some good catches-Been a while since I fished there but I use to enjoy it because it wasn't real crowded

thanks for the info, Jetty - I flipped through my copy of the FWC and didn't see that little guy.
