Hannah Park 9/24 & American Beach 9/25

Went to Hannah Thursday primarily to dig for sandfleas for major fishing Friday & Saturday. Since I'd received my second 9' Tica Dolphin to pair with a Daiwa Regal Baitrunner 4000 I decided to take both rods and toss 'em out with shrimp while I dug. Could not for the life of me find a "pod" of fleas. Kept getting just one at a time and wound up with a grand total of ten. Had to buy about 5 dozen frozen ones from Atlantic Seafood on Mccormac rd. However, the bite was off the chain for the two hours I was there. Black drum, Pomps just under size, four whiting 2 of which were bulls and a Jack. The Sargassum was on the beach but very negligible in the water. That all changed in 24 hours.

Got to American beach about 11. Had to make a lot of stops to get supplies for my two kids with me. Wanted to have the first line in by 9:30am. As I roll the cart up to the beach I soon see a beach littered with Sargassum as far as the eye could see. There were also big clumps of it in spots in the water. Had enough supplies to fish the whole day and then some so it's a major under taking to go from vehicle to beach. Had 5 rods with me and all the baits, Mullet, clams, crabs, shrimp and fleas. Was planning to rock. Decided I had to see if the water was as bad as the beach. Threw out a rod and let it sit for a few minutes. The grass took the line from a 1 o'clock angle to a 10 o'clock angle. Reeled it in and it was clumped with grass. Thought about fishing the river at Carlucci, thought about going back to Hannah and thought about going all the way to Vilano. Decided to get a nap and see what tomorrow holds.

I know where hannah is but have never heard of american bch. Where is it?

American Beach is on Amelia Island. A1A north along Hecksher drive. Past Little Talbot you'll pass two Circles in the road think one of the places is called Amelia Plantation. About a mile beyond there's a sign for Burney Park. 1/2 mile further is a Kangaroo. Turn down that street and you'll hit the access ramp if you have a 4x4 and can drive on the beach. But I think you need a "county" permit to drive on the beach.

Ok I was up that way last year one the way to that sound that is north of there. I know the hecksher drive area is good fishing too. Some of my inlaws live in mayport over by the ferry. I don't usually go past that point. would like to try the later in the year.

Keep in mind the deeper we getting into winter the further south the "action" moves. Most of the species around here are migratory. Best times to catch most fish from the Surf is Spring and Fall.
