I got my first keeper spotted sea trout today in a creek. It was windy, hot as hades and the current was moving swiftly in the creek. The park staff had just painted picnic benches and tables so there was no place to sit out of the sun. I crossed the little wooden bridge over creek and dropped a freelined salted shrimp on one side of bridge. I left the bail open on spinning reel and let the current drag off several yards of line so the bait would fall naturally on opposite side of bridge.
I checked drag and closed bail and waited. About a minute later got a strong tug, some tension and then line started peeling off. I reeled against outgoing line and kept line in center of bridge and away from oyster bars. A few minutes later I pulled up a nice spotted sea trout. I fished for another hour but no bites so I let the sun have the woods and went home.
