Hit our intended final spot with a vengeance. First fish up was a 13" grover, in the cooler it went and we started stalking some baby tarpon. I got two shots, both times the fish took the shrimp and ran, I came tight with the 1/0 circle and both times the spit the hook in my face.... GRRR I was pissed cuz two shots sight casting to tarpon at night, especially when I get them to eat should mean netted fish... I shrugged it off and was talking to Mike, meanwhile he had his shrimp soaking on a shadow he had spotted. All of the sudden BAM! He was on, I saw the fish early before it took off and yelled "SNOOK"
After a long fight, he had it whooped in the net, up came a 28-29" slot fish. Healthy and fat, we were not aware if we could keep em in monroe county or not, so back she went! We were fishing about 80 miles from the closest thing resembling an estuary, so I was super excited to put him on a snook! That rush never gets old!
Finally, I went back to snapper fishing and got 6 more snapper, all between 2-3 lbs, perfect for frying! Had a bunch more runs and we started to settle and work these two juvi tarpon that kept on feeding on a light by us... After Mike got eaten a few times and they both spit the hook ( I think 1/0 was just too small for em) we got down to the last two shrimp in the bucket... I freeline mine down, and see the tarpon come towards it, Mike wanted a tarpon to complete his night and I tell him " Youre going to hate me bro, but I am on!" Off to the races once again! Got a good dozen jumps or so, fish was hooked in lower lip. We gently netted it, took our pic while supporting it the whole time and back in it went! After that we headed home, was a very good night in my book!
Till next time, Tight Lines! His snook picture will be added to the thread when he sends it my way! Here is my two pictures I took, one was a baby gag, around 18" or so, maybe less, awesome catch either way when he came from rocks on 10lbs test!
