Non return slides
Hi all,
I arrive In the keys for a fishing holiday from the uk on Wednesday. I have ordered some non return slides, but they have not turned up yet. Does anyone know if they can be bought anywhere in the keys?
Thanks,
Tim

Re: Non return slides
It's similar to what we call trolly rigging. Here we just cast a weight out then either clip a snap swivel tied to a leader and bated hook to the main line or a second rod main line to a slider clip or another snap swivel with a rubber band on the second main line so it breaks away easily. How you fish your trolly depends on what you're targeting. Here a link to a thread with a great breakdown. Checkout Rob762's post's in that thread. His first one has a link and the second is a diagram. Should be exactly what you'll need..

FYI:
From Stripers online: surf canon and variatons for the breakaway slider.
http://www.stripersonline.com/t/417082/surf-cannon
you can get sliders from http://www.breakawayusa.com
These non return clips work great in the surf. Breakaway also has surf rigs that work pretty good that keep your bait tight to the line during casting and have a release clip when you rig impacts the water to release your bait

I have used them in the past and they work and make a wicked crack when that shock knot rockets out thru the guides

Slide rigs make me want to fish over to Deerfield. I've never done it. The one Rob posted with the wire and eggsinker looks like the best way.

Thanks for all the replies folks. As it looks like I'll have to make my own, is there anywhere I can pick up either stainless steel spring wire or stainless TiG welding rods of 1/16th inch to 1/10th inch in the keys?

Way better off finding a welding supply in Miami. I'll see if I can locate one close to the airport.

US Welding & Safety Supply

Both are on the way to the key's. Should be able to google them for directions.

So wait your coming to the Keys for two days, and are going to bend up some Ulua trolly rigs in your spare time, like the flyin Hawaian is making in that video. You my friend are hardcore

Re: Non return slides
I'm not quite that hardcore! I've got 2 nights at Valhalla Point Resort in Marathon that does have access to some water, but I fancy trying the deeper water off bridges etc. next, I've got 3 nights in Key West where I shall enjoy a little liquid refreshment, but will also be on the look out for some big land based fishing opportunities. After that, we've got 7 nights in Islamorada, where we've booked 3 tarpon and 2 shark guided trips, so should still have plenty of time to try and catch a big fish from the shore. I've read the guide on how to catch tarpon on this site (which is excellent) so will try the technique described off one if the bridges.
However, if what I hear about the weather at the moment is true I might not be don much more than sitting inside looking at wind, rain and thunderstorms!
