Vacation to the Keys from the UK

Hi Guys, my names Zac, every year i come to florida to do some shore fishing aka piers, bridges. I normally visit Anglins Pier in Ft. Lauderdale. I've done quite well considering, i learnt quick ive had my fair share of fish in the way of Snook, Macs, Jacks, Snappers and a Tarpon. Anyway getting back to the chase, im flying into Miami on the 12th February and making the drive down to Marathon. My hope was to be able to fish the bridges, for snapper and snook but my real aim is a nice shark (Not a Nurse). I know the time of year im going isn't great but the flights were cheap and i like a challenge!

All im after is some advice abouts which bridges to fish and tactics for some sharks, I will be bringing gear over from the Uk as i have to trial it for ShimanoUk and put it to the test and report back.

Any advice would be great but i also appreciate the fact that you all have your secrets and i dont expect you to tell me them!

Just trying to get the best out of my vacation from Wales!

exactly what kind of gear are you bringing over?? sharking off the bridges is done by floating a bait out with the current under a balloon, bottle or something. to catch good snapper off the bridges try live shrimp and jigs.

Hi Chris, my plan is to bring over some of the new travel rods from shimano (7-8 piece) rods and put them to the test, ive had a feel with them in my hands and i wanna try out the 50lbs class on the sharks off the bridges, i will try lots of ways but most likely balloon a bait out.

I plan to fish this one rod as a sleeper and stick to catching snapper around the pilings.

I will be staying near conch key, close to the long key viaduct, is this bridge pretty consistent?

I had doubts when I heard about those 7-8 piece travel rods but then saw a very good article in Florida Sportsman about them and said they were very good and showed a guy with a big lemon shark caught on one. the long key viaduct bridge is very good, heck most bridges in the keys are consistent producers. try some live bait for snapper and grouper and if you decide to shark fish too, give it a shot. when are you arriving?? report back with any good catches.

They are pretty good, i always bring over the travel rods as i dont have to pay excess fees for more luggage. Done me well especially with the tarpon i had! Its a nice bit of kit.

My plan is to fish a few rods, but my main aim is a shark.

I will be arriving on the 14th Feb, and its all fishing for two weeks, i will take plenty of pictures and report back.
