10/23 flamingo
the weather was finally good enough this weekend for a couple fishing trips, one of which I took the Jon boat to flamingo for my first time since moving to Florida. Bought some dead shrimp and jigheads just to test out the waters. Got there at about 830 to catch incoming tide. There was not much action on the flats for the first couple hours,. Moved to one of the channels, still no action, no jumps, no baitfish, no birds. I poled over to the mangroves and that is when action finally started to pick up. Lots of mullet jumping and scattering for an hour or two. Got a lot of bites but only hooked up with a catfish and a ladyfish. I also saw some rolling tarpon stalking something, probably mullet into the mangroves. All in all it was an awesome time to get out there finally, even though the fishing was lacking. Flamingo was awesome for sure and I'll be back there soon

Hey bud, I don't fish from a boat much so dunno what to tell you there, however from my years fishing from land there I have to say, incoming = not that great! Try LAST of the incoming dead slack and then outgoing! I have always done very well on the outgoing. What do you have powering your john boat?

yeah we stayed until about 1 , we waited for that tide also, I think the cold front killed the bite because I didnt have very good results at Channel 2 on Saturday either. I asked some other boaters how they did and they said it had been slow that weekend. The engine is a 4 stroke, 25 HP Yamaha..It is actually the boat of a guy who works for me but he doesnt use it. It has a tiller handle for steering and barely draws any water. You can get this thing into very shallow water.
