Flies for Key West

I’ll be in Key West this Saturday. It won’t be a fishing trip, but hanging out with my wife. But I think I can convince her to let me carry my fly rod with me as we walk around. I plan to make a few sight casts to baby barracudas. I won’t waste my expensive store bought flies on toothy critters, but I was thinking of tying up a handful of clouser minnows this week. Any recommendations on colors or other types of flies?

I'd imagine you could throw some bright colored flies. Some bright greens, yellows, pinks, oranges.

This is old, but simply in the interest of thoroughness I shall say that PINK! Hot PINK! Seeing as you can tie your own, go down there, take a camera and look at all the beauty hanging out beneath your feet, if u got a small net dont be afraid to pick some stuff up from the seagrass and match the hatch... I suck at tying flies, but even my half assed ones have scored simply from matching the color

Keep in mind, anywhere you can get to by foot down there sees a LOT of pressure, so finesse and times when no one else is around are both key to be successful when you return! I work right next to an Orvis store and I am waiting for a real good deal on a fly outfit to get back into it!
