VISITING KEY LARGO AREA 1ST TIME - CAN YOU HELP?

Going to be in Florida (Key Largo) in early to mid May for the first time. Are there some beaches and/or jetties that wouldn't be too crowded that time of the year in the middle or upper Keys? Spin and fly fishing. I'm an older, but mobile, guy. Not sure if I'll have all the gear for pier fishing.

there are no piers that come to mind in key largo,few if any beaches ,bridges abound many can be fished by simply walking out on them.You are going to have to go further down into the keys to find a spot to pier fish,the only pier that comes to mind is in key west on the east side of the island,it also has beaches on both sides,you can also go to any of the state parks and find wadeable water,if you have a boat,yac or canoe you can go out to one of the flats ,be sure of the bottom befor you get out to walk there are good sand bottoms but bad mud sink to your knees flats,your best bet is to ask the locals the will be more than happy to help.I hope this helps you out,TIGHT LINES AND ENJOY :thumright:POST PICS!!

As stated above there are many bridges in Keys that can be fished. Since you will be in Key Largo. I would suggest you travel down to the middle keys where there are several good fishing bridges; these are Channel 2 at MM73, Channel 5 at MM71, Long Key at MM65, Tom's Harbor 3 at MM61 and Tom's Harbor 4 at MM60. These are dedicated fishing bridges where you can catch a variety of fish. The best baits to use are live shrimps and live pinfish and these can be bought from the many bait shops in the Keys. Chances are you should be able to catch your dinner.
You can also wade and fly-fish at Anne's Beach across fom Channel 2.
