New Guy - South Florida

Post by Chefearthspice »

Hey All,

Dan here, friends know me as 'Chef' . I'm 28 married with two lil dudes who are cool as poop... but sometimes you just need to go fishing.

Always loved to fish, but never really had the time to make it out that frequently...
as of late, I have been hitting the pier and surf at Dania Beach.

I come here for advice from you guys, because to be clear, I am not even sure I'm baiting my hook right?

my gear -- I've got a 8' surf rod (offshore brand) and a penn reel with 30# braid on it / also have a bait set up rig that I use with sabinkis to catch finger mullet

I really want to get good and start catching fish. The last 3 times I have been out - I spent nearly 16 hours and all I caught was a slight beer buzz and some sunburn, (oh yea caught a ton of live bait which i filled my freezer with)

I either need a new technique, new gear, or a new location.. all i want to do is bring home some fresh fish to cook up at home.

What your doing so far sounds alright might be other factors, what time of day are you fishing, how far are your casts going, and what rig are you casting out there?
Oh and if the kids are old enough bring them they can have fun catching you your bait so you can fish more

Welcome, Chef Dan

Your humble way has won me over and a great start on the right track. Look at reports, trying heading out with group members to the pier to get the hang on things till you find out what works and you will be on your way. Stay on the right track and things will come...Welcome :toast:

Damn.....and Rare usually hates new all meat but I do agree that was one fine introduction. So it's not a big surprise that after Forum Big Brothers were assigned last night.....YOU GOT ME and I'm known as the best fisherman and the King of the Dania Pier :auto: :auto: :auto:

lol........when it looks like this. Shoot me a PM the next time you're going to go and (unless there is a last minute heart transplant somewhere) I'll meet you. I've logged a couple of hours on those planks in the past couple of years and I love the place.

I was there today about 4 and was looking for you. Now I'm on my way to Best Buy to buy another one of those giant freezers. Definitely killed more fish today than GK.

Strange, I was checking out the cam about that time and didn't see anyone with a grey tank top on wheeling a cooler full of fish off the pier. I must have missed you.

Maybe that's because I didn't go further than the new sign that reads......NO FISHING BEYOND THIS POINT. Like there was much 'fishing' ever beyond that point at Dania. Parking is still expensive though.
