Is it worth fishing within Boot Key Harbor and near area or would it be better to spend the time and move to a better location?

Is anyone familiar with Boot Key Harbor Marathon, FL? I will be there in February and am unfamiliar with the area, in fact unfamiliar with saltwater fishing in general. Are the canals off of the harbor fishable? Are ther many bridges aside from the 7 mile bridge near there? I will not be able to go to far as I have limited transportation so what is the best bet near the harbor? If you were to rent a boat is there decent fishing within the harbor or is it a high traffic area where you shouldn't be stopping your boat? If the canals are fishable, can you expect any sizeable fish (barracuda?) to be present or would it be mostly small fish? Thanks for the help, this forum has been the best I've found yet!
