Team R.A.T.E Port Everglades kingfish report 8/8/12

headed out today with me and josh solo, joey couldnt make it and neither could rick he was a little under the weather, anyways launched the boat at 6:15am sharp went to the white bouys to catch some small blue runners and ballyhoo, with 2 casts of the cast net we where able to get about 40 ballyhoo and 6 runners, headed off shore to set up a drift, put out a bally on top and a blue runner on the down rigger, hooked a sailfish on my bally but after a 10min fight she came un hooked oh well caught many of them before, exactly right after that the down rigger goes screaming fish on , we get it up to the top and a nice king with a great head shot

after clearing the lines we retie and set out another few baits this time 2 runners, i put down a vertical jig for a few and hooked up on the first drop, i set the hook on the fish and damn it must have angered him because he took about a 200yrd run , tthen after turning him he takes another 100yrd and me and josh are like what the hell this must be a 50 king, then after a 30min battle i see color and its a 30lb wahoo my eyes opened like crazy i have caught many just not on vertical jig i get her up and she does a complete 360 and cuts me boat size , oh well i tie on another jig and hooked up on that drop and get a nice king

last but not least i send out a fresh blue runner on my rod and as i am putting it out i get slammed and hook up but after a 5 min battle cuts me then as soon as i got cut joshs rod goes off and we get a king to the top i take a swipe gaff her and in the boat, and she spits out my stinger in her mouth right then and there i telll josh we are cutting her in half lol,

anyways all in all a great day we did anchor for a little and caught a cero mack and a few tails but no muttons like we hoped im pretty shure the full moon the last few days had something to do with it and no current but whatever anyways we missed you today rick hope you feel better soon so you can get out there with us. we are the whisperers, till nxt time

glad yall had a good day.... hope to make it in to work Thursday...missing a whole week sucks....and next week I will miss my fishing days with some VA hospital time.... so the fish are safe for a couple of weeks. Looked like good king weather....

When you said the how you got hit I was thinking wahoo right away. The wahoo Sehoon caught went nuts pretty much the way you said. He got hooked & I believe was about 50ft to the surface... I was bring mine up and got hit but got cut off and believe it was another wahoo. I was fishing next to him...

once he hit i had a feeling either a big king or a big wahoo or blackfin but there was no tail beat to him so black fin went out the window, last year this time i caught many wahoo just after the full moon in august by the anchored freighters they usually spawn this time all the kings had roe

All are bites where in 170 feet to 145 there was a slight temp change and a little current

Looks like you guys had a great day! Glad the Kings are showing up again. Man I want another Wahoo on the Vertical jig! Can't beat that feeling when it shows up and hits that jig! How far down was the jig when the wahoo hit it?

last year this time i caught many wahoo just after the full moon in august

August full moon,.. you can catch them at night just drifting Hoos on the jigs along with the Kings and B-Fins. Even had Muttons come to the top eating the flat lines.

we were in 165 when i got hit he hit me about 5 or so jigs up from the bottom
