Tavernier Reef Fishing 5/20

Post by bigseank22 »

Long time since I have been out for a worthwhile report. Hit a couple spots off of Tavernier and Key Largo and had a great day. There were 4 of us on the boat, current was dead, which was surprising with New Moon that night. Caught a decent amount of tails between 14-18,a cuda sniped one that was about 20", a nice moray off the bottom while dropping for grouper, which was cool because I have never caught one and got a cool picture of it, and a nurse shark later on doing the same thing. I also tried my vertical jig at 120' which was unsuccessful, but fishing was turned off at this point anyway. I had a huge cero mack hooked that was at least 30" and got him to the boat twice but my buddy was late with the net and he popped the hook right at the stern. That made me lay down and cry. It was awesome to get out on a 29' Hydrasport again...Til next time here are the pics: I caught about half the tails.

Nice. You should have just reached in with your hand to get your ballyhoo back from that eel
