Action offshore is startibng to heat up. some friends went out last Sunday ( I could not make it ) but here is the report.

Second weekend in a row Kings and 'Phins were hit within paddling distance of the PIER

Gotta love April and May !

Hey Cook, I wanted to mention I fished off a yak for the first time. It was saturday afternoon, I was at J Lloyd watching the airshow and a buddy of mine brought his yak. Might I also mention it was not easy. I'd have to say it's real bare boned, I had to make sure I brought everything I needed. I didn't catch anything, but the paddle out was certainly a learning curve. I'm looking forward to the next time.

Ray - Between Hilsborough and N Miami is often referred to by offshore guys as " The Dead Zone" for fishing - Not sure why. Fish can be caught but conditions need to be spot on and the paddle out to the deep depths is LONG !!!

What kind of yak di you use and how were you rigged? Maybe I can help with storage - setup to maximize space and options.

BUGDOC fishes that area from time to time as did Rijkaard when he yakked - maybe they have tips on the reefs there. when in Broward, I hit Pompano Pier area ( 300 feet away at least ) and take advantage of the reef structure I learned while fishing the pier. Macs and snapper are the main target.

For me - it is worth the trip to LWP this time of year. Whe it is slow everywhere I stay close to home then.

Is it your yak, or do you have access anytime? maybe we can do a paddle sometime and share some tips !

I really don't know too much about yak'n. It was my buddy's... a common yellow yak with the words OCEAN RESCUE on the side. I'm guessing under 10 feet long. I can't say I have easy access to use it. But this buddy of mine does take it to the beach whenever he decides to surfcast.

All I can do is keep you up to date on this issue.

tried out my Hobie last week first time on the ocean..man these things offer much more stability than I have ever thought! Feel good to get out on a fishing trip soon when winds allow it!

Spent half an hour on the water and already loving the Yak!

April and May are great for King Dolphin and sails from the yak !

I'd love to see that peddle drive at work in the ocean....manI would be trolling a bally hoo all day if I had one of those, just zig zagging over the 70-120 drop off' !!!

Both kids were sick, so I was really tied up all weekend, but thinking about you guys alot.

I won many, many brownie points to be redeemed on a weekend launch soon

great catches!!...how long of a paddle is it from the shore? is the dolphin bite good at around 100ft?..my dads been wanting to go snapper fishing and ive been wanting to go dolphin fishing, so we came to an agreement of 100ft lol...

Hey Ricky, we have hit em close and far, deep and shallow - no way to predict it. Just gotta hope for an east wind that will bring the mats in close enough to give you a shot....Gonna try for some more on sunday !

How did the snapper fishing go? That is always more predictable than gon for Phins
