Hay guys, I am going to be in the keys for 5days and wanting
To try my hand in a yak. Can you guys let me know where I could
Rent one, and most important where the best spots in the keys to fish
are. I will be living out of my van the whole time fishing the bridges, drift boats
and a charter. We are filming a show cslled SaltyHookers, mostly
all landbased fishing(drift boat and charter r just for fun).
The only boating we will cover is from a yak, in an effort to be green.
The show is based on people like all you guys here. And would love to film
as many pple as I can. So, thank you in advance for any input you guys give me.

All the larger islands have yak rentals. The thing is they won't be rigged for fishing.

ive seen but no yak what ya looking for critters for this is fishin post

Right now due to windy conditions, the flats wont be as good as they get in the summer... With a Kayak I am certain you can catch a slam if you put in your time... I have been off by a tarpon a couple times and wading, which limits me to the shorebound flats, just a small channel separates much more fertile water from those.

Slick summer dawns, you can see both bonefish and permit tailing in some places! It is the only thing I look forward to in the summer! Have to be off the water by 10 though, cuz it is a furnace after that.

Thank you so much for the input Mr Grouper, where are those shorebound flats? sounds like an awesome spot. Do you fish anglins alot?

Ive been known to hit up Anglins when the mackerel are around... although this year I didn't see but a few short snakes. The keys are more of my stomping grounds. Try Anne's beach, by channel 2 in a slick summer morning, just at dawn. However this is not the only place by far... If I had a Staal that I could dunk without issues I would swim across some of the smaller finger channels between the islands... You do have to dodge sting rays and sometimes bull sharks, you have been warned. However, most times if you keep your feet planted and drag em ever so lightly you should be able to get them out of the way... The sharks, just keep a sharp lookout, with good polarized glasses and tap em on the nose with the rod tip when they get that close, sends them bolting for deeper water.
