11-25-06 ~ Even lower tides

Today the family wanted to go out, so i decided to join them, and do a little fishing. I have been pretty fished out the past couple days, but it has been great. Launched around 9AM, a late start but my parents do not like to go really early so again, nothing i can do. At the launch i met "Redfisher" and we talked for a brief minute while loading the boats. It was pretty neat since that was the first time i have seen someone i know at the launch.
The tide was going out, and would be low at 11AM. Gave me enough time to fish for my trout on the outgoing, and my occasional red-fish on the incoming. We paddled, or should i say walked to the first spot...and i was surprised and didn't really see to much mullet action. I set my dad up so that we could walk around the perimeter of the hole, and cast in it. "Twitch up, let it go down" I told him. He was throwing the DOA Shads, while i was throwing an Exude slug. (My new fav. jerk-bait
) Within 15 minutes of launching i had already landed 2 slot sized trout. My dad was still throwing lures with nothing...
I started to walk around the hole, and my dad just stayed in the same spot. I told him to move around, and he went the wrong way, and didn't seem to pay attention. I caught about 3 more trout in a row, before i yelled for him 30 yards away to come over here. He told me his lure didn't work, then i took his rod, first cast i had a lady fish. "Be patient" I said. I gave him a quick lesson, and his VERY next cast he was hooked up, and landed a lady fish. I stopped fishing and helped him use the lure, and the cast right after he caught the lady fish, he was hooked up again. This time, he landed his second red-fish ever!
A quick picture and it was set free...
I started fishing now, and my dad had dominated the spot, he ended up catching 2 more red-fish in that spot! I moved elsewhere since he seemed set. I caught another trout in the area, before we set off to find more water...
We were paddling to a new area, where i spotted some deep parts on google earth, when a bunch of pelicans were diving non stop. It was a little while away, but it looked like the water was exploding in little pops. We paddled as fast as we could keeping our eyes open on the way, but by the time we got there the action on the surfaced slowed to nothing. My dad never went the hole way to where the fish were busting, he fished another little area while i kept it moving. I stopped pretty close to the spot where there was some water, and it was about 30 yards away from my dad. First few cast i hooked the biggest lady-fish in my life, it scream drag them with a acrobatic jump it spit the hook. A few cast later, i hooked a smaller red-fish, then the next cast another. My dad seen the action and started paddling my way...
While i turned back to see where he was, i got a nice thump on the DOA shad i was casting. Another red-fish? I thought... It pulled hard, and i new it was a quality fish. I got it closer to the boat and seen a jack with some black fins, that equals...POMPANO! I got it to the boat and it truly was a pompano/permit looking fish. I have never caught one before...so it was quite exciting!! Took a few pictures and i was quite excited.
We did a little more paddling, and exploring and found a bunch of sheepshead, and even seen a little snook. (Haven't seen one in about 2 weeks). We called it a day and met back up with mom and headed in. When i got home i checked my pictures, and pictures online and i am pretty sure its a pompano instead of a permit. Well... it was fun.
I am very thankful...
