April 28 Pensacola Beach Pier

Post by Pier#r »

Something a little different this week.
I drove an hour and a half over to Pensacola Beach Pier.

I got a late start and didn't arrive at the pier until almost 10 am.
The water looked great (from where I come from

There were a few folks on the pier too

Still I saw a couple of old friends from the old GSPPier (Claude and Otis)
Image

They were catching pompano pretty good near the beach when I arrived until scuba class started

A couple of hours later a few pompano started coming through again and this lil gal was putting on a clinic with a set line and sandfleas.
She needed a little help getting them in, but did great 8)

I finally got in on the act and caught two +15" FL pomps on the pink Conner's jig tipped with sandflea :D

With only a couple of hours left to fish, I wanted a few more spanish so I went out to the end
where I saw Calvin and Cadman from the ECPFF. (EMERALDCOASTPIERFISHING.COM)

First class guys for sure, nice talking with y'all :D

Sure wish I could've stayed later..
I appreciate the tastetest of Cadman's mom mackerel salad too 8)
Please thank your mom for me as she was pretty busy while I was there

There was a few small kings and one HUGE king, caught by a young fella called "Crab"
This nutty fish ate his bait 4 times before the steel took hold
I got a 'sorta' crappy pic, it was deeper than I thought

This is a better pic of it

I ended up with a decent mess of fish (2 pompano and 9 spanish).
(a nice young fella gave me 2 or 3 more spanish).

I sure had a blast, as always at the Pensacola Beach Pier.
Just wish it was for longer and more often.
But thank You Lord :!:
It turned into a pretty afternoon after the am clouds rolled out.

I first witnessed Panhandle style pier fishing 35 years ago and it was luv at first sight
The appeal has never dimmed for me, great sights, great fishing and great folks.

I almost forgot, at least two cobia were landed in the am including this 52#r
