PCB - What to expect in Mid January?

Post by XiBowhunter »

I will be back in PCB on the 16th of January. Staying for a week on the beach, what can I expect to catch from the surf? Will the sharks still be in close? What about bluefish?

I am wanting to fish the jetty and pier that week to, so what can I expect there as well?

I will be taking a charter trip bottom fishing off-shore, so what will the charter boats target that time of year?

Help with the surf is first and foremost because that is where i will spend most of my time.

In the surf you will still get blues, whiting and way over slot redfish. I am not sure what the sharking will be like. I u go on a charter you have to remember u can't keep grouper, red snapper and ajs. That limits you to vermillion and grovers for the most part on snapper. The triggerfish will be there but the new min in 12 to the fork, which is a pretty healthy trigger.

The weather will be some of the coldest for the year and windy = getting wet on jetties. The rebuilt dan russell pier is open now and is about 1400 ft. That is about 4 miles from the jetties at the state park and their very shallow 400 ft pier.

If you have a net the mullet will probably be running. the flouder and sheepshead will be around. Try the kiddie pool at the park for the flounder using mud minnows or doa's and of course fresh shrimp.
