Tallahassee Area Info

Post by bubbafishin »

Hey I go to Florida State University and will be heading back up for the fall semester in 2 weeks. I have a spinning rod up there and have not had a chance to use it yet. Are there any places around there that I can fish for some striped bass, I really want to catch one of these. Any kind of fishing would be nice though I like bass catfish, and is there any saltwater spots around where I can try for some trout or redfish. I really like fishing and if I don't fish for 3 months again I will go crazy :nilly: . I hope there are people on the forum from this area that can help me out, thanks for any info.

Go fish the lighthouse at St. Marks. Its a good spot for macks, redfish, seatrout, and other assorted species. Watch out for the Bullsharks and Gators that are there. you take Monroe Street all the way south to highway 98 and make a left. You will go a couple miles and then you go over a small bridge and the opening to the state park is right after the bridge. There is only one road in the park and you take it to the end and there is a parking lot right next to the lighthouse. You can wade the flats right around the lighthouse or walk down the path to the right of the parking lot and it goes to a oyster bar. Walk out to the end of that oyster bar at low tide and you fish that channel with shrimp tipped jigs or small plugs and you will tear them up. Go on a weekday for better luck, there will be less boats. There is a tackle shop right on Monroe Street on your way to the park.

Also you can fish old bridge in St. George. They left the old bridge to St. George Island for fishing like in the Keys.

There is no reason to not go fishing when you are at FSU. When I was Tally I went everyday and the fishing is incredible especially in the spring but the fall is really good too. Good luck, shoot me a PM if have a questions.

Thanks a lot man I was beginning to think that I was not going to get any responses. Nice looking catches in your pics. My only problem is now I have to get some friend to come along with me as I have no car. Hope I can get some good action out there by that lighthouse.
