baitfish

Post by bulld0g62 »

dont the baitfish schools usually show back up in this area around now? past couple times i was DFP, the water seemed void of everything. no pilchards, gogs, dines. couldnt even get jacks without putting in alot of effort. has anyone seen consistang schools of bait around the piers yet or is the water still too cold?

I agree. Usually around this time pilchards start showing up. I've been able to catch a couple nice goggle eyes but that's with a chum bag off the bridge. Without the chum nothing would even look at my bait.

Bait seems a bit harder to find but once you put in some extra time you will get good bait. Today pins were out every where I checked all the bait stores but I just had to catch some mullet and sand perch.

The bait is here although spread out...they are also just about completely scarfed up by live bait commercial guys hauling in hundreds of fish at a pop. I was at the Port Everglades inlet Thursday AM and saw 4 boats, all hauling in hundreds of mullet & they also wiped out a whole school of decent sized pilchards. Watched with my binocs as one bait boat (advertising live bait on the hull) must have hauled in at least 10 (15') cast net loads so big he could hardly pull it out of the water. Does the 50 mullet limit also apply to bait sellers? Seems like most of the bait is hovering beyond the sandbar lately...everything I've seen in the trough has been very small...

I think 7' is the max in Broward. I recently had to exchange one when I found out.
