New River Report 2-9-13
West wind yeasterday tried a old spot on the new river Davie/I-95 area. Fished live shrimp and mullet chunks from 2-6pm incomming. Nothing until we were getting ready to leave I guess the last hour or so of incomming caught 4 small jacks 2 undersize grovers. No bites on a big mullet soaking in the middle. FYI my son caught 6 keeper grovers a week ago thats why I was giving it a shot.

BigDawg .................... Thanks for the report man. I was fishing there 4 days ago with my buddy and a school of giant jacks somewhere in the 20 to 25lb range swam up on us. They hit both me and my buddies lines. Funny thing is that we had 10 pound class rods fishing for snapper too. With no leaders, small hooks and tiny pieces of squid for bait. But to make a long story short we both faught them for about 3 to 5 mins which is like an eternity when fighting a huge jack lol. We ended up both getting stripped all of our line there was no stopping those lil trains. especially with the gear we had lol. But it shure was exciting!!!!!!!. We were fishing at that lil park they just built on the north side of newriver just east of 1-95. Where do you go?

Yeah that's the spot my son and his buddy slayed the snappers there a couple days earlier I miss judged the tide it seemed like it stayed slack for a couple hours and I was shot out when it finally started moving. If you walk east along the river you can walk behind a old abandoned house and there is a lot of seawall there to fish off of we saw a bunch of jacks cruising the seawall but they were kinda picky.
