Fish Types / What to avoid

Hey guys im starting to fish off Broward piers. Also new member and this is my first post. Any advise on best way to identify fish when it comes to whats good to eat? More importantly, any advice on identifying what fish should I avoid?

I'm new here to. I looked at the chart to see if a fish I caught last year was on there. I didn't find it. It was small like a pinfish. pretty blue, someone thought it was a bluerunner?

Sharks are a pain as are Ribbon fish.

I hate catching chubs, when I'm jigging for other stuff. All they do is poop on you. Ewwwwww. And I don't call them chubs, either. Use your imagination.

Avoid squirrel fish, porcupine puffers, spotbased burrfish, leather jacks, careful with hard heads, lionfish and scorpion fish

Haha looked all those fish up. Thankfully i wouldnt eat anything that looks like them.

Thats usually the case. The edible fish tend to not look so alien like. But do pick up a chart for yourself and a regulations guide (free at walmart by the fishing gear and also bait shops). Id be more worried about getting busted for poaching. There can be some steep punishments.

anyone know of a site that has pics and info of fish not so common? Atleast not in the typical sense? I caught something saturday night and could not id it. It was torpedo shaped kind of like a bone fish but had a larger dorsal and the tail was pretty big compared to its body. Its nose was more blunt/round with an under bite. Kind of like an oversized anchovie. Was about 12 inches. I try to get a pic up.

ps. it wasnt a croaker or anything like that. Body shape didnt seem like a bottom dewlling fish.

Another fish you have to avoid handling is the stargazer.

seems like your about right. I googled it and came across some similar pictures. However, from what im reading they seem to be more common on the other side of the globe, ie, asia and australia. Are they common here? Seems like im having trouble catching "normal" fishing, lol. in the past to nights ive caught this and a guitarfish. i should try a new spot. haha.
